A former judge Echols and his daughter Erelyn were killed in a double tragedy when a son in law Paul Combs shot Echols and his daughter before taking his own life. The newborn baby, three weeks old, is cared for by Mrs. Hugh Pace as authorities review the incident.
The Fey Bros Three Ring Wild Animal Circus promises a night of laughter and feats with clowns and daring animal acts. Featuring Simple Simons and other famed troupe members, the show blends comedy and stunts for an upbeat, family friendly performance.
Mrs Ralph Smith entertained Mrs George W Woodbury and Mr and Mrs Forrest Sanders at an evening bridge gathering in Silver City. Refreshments were served.

Monday night a burglar smashed a plate glass window in the Up-To-Date store’s dry goods department and stole four pairs of trousers two dress shirts two pairs of shoes and a wrist watch from the display. No entry into the main store is indicated and no other merchandise was taken.
William Randle Rudiell born April 22 1858 in Milam County Texas died February 13 1937. First Sutton County assessor served four terms then moved to Grant County New Mexico as a rancher for thirty years. He was a Methodist and Odd Fellows member, oldest of twelve, survived by his wife three sisters and a brother. Burial at Rodeo Cemetery near friends who mourned a long illness.
The mayor proclaims March 14 to March 20 as Business and Professional Women's Week in Lordsburg imploring residents to support the work of the organization. C. L. Brown signs the proclamation.
Lordsburg honors Paul Zimmerman chief of New Mexico State Bureau Associated Press as he arrives to cover the state basketball tournament. Zimmerman, a former Nebraska graduate and Rose Bowl veteran, leads AP coverage and will be on site for three days.
Mrs James Wells 43 wife of a Southern Pacific Water Service employee died March 4 at Lordsburg hospital. Funeral from her Granite Gap ranch home attended by husband two married daughters and a son. Reverend M C Moore led services at Lordsburg Baptist Church as a large crowd expressed sympathy.
The Endeavorers hold a slim 145 point lead over the Christians with the contest continuing. A discussion is planned for next Sunday led by Annabelle Corbell on helping friends find Christ. Church of Christ invites all to attend Sunday at 5 30 p m.
Mrs J Kelly and Mr and Mrs Hugh H Williams from Evansville Indiana visit Deming on a Tuesday afternoon. J Kelly and Mrs Williams arrive with a beautiful bouquet of jonquils for the Chamber of Commerce event.

Judge George W. Hay presided over a Wednesday District Court session dis posing of several cases. He was accompanied by Mrs. Hay and court reporter Mrs. Ada Woddbury.
All-American back John Levi once a 185 pound fullback in 1924 now weighs 240 pounds. Indian coach for Wingate basketball, Levi remains noted for his athletic versatility and strong build.
Friends of county superintendent Mrs Agnes Edington report her rapid recovery from a severe illness at Lordsburg hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hatfield raise two hundred baby chicks shipped two thousand miles from Michigan. A photo in the Benton Harbor News-Palladium shows the chicks coming along beautifully.
The writer urges Lordsburg to copy Carlsbad by designating off street parking for visitors during the State Tournament. He argues hundreds of out of town cars will arrive and a friendly shift by local drivers would help tourism and business.

Dr. C. B. Austin recalls Wingate high praise for Lordsburg star Jack Kerr at the 1934 state tournament in Albuquerque. Kerr earned elite Southwestern honors then and continues to excel at 85 with the University.
John Stewart of Cloverdale visited Lordsburg on Tuesday. Mesdames Fred and Earl Anderson of Red Rock hosted a miscellaneous shower for Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gordon last Wednesday night.
The New Mexico High School Basketball Tourna ment opens at 8 AM with 16 district winners and runners-up competing for the state title. Teams from Springen Des Moines Santa Fe Albuquerque Socortd Roswell Lake Arthur Portales Floyd Tucumcari Endee Gallup Fort Wingate and Match arrived to prepare for four games in the morning and four in the afternoon. semis tomorrow at 10 and final at 6. Admission details list season tickets and night session prices.
A car headed to Lordsburg was stopped near the west Portal of Entry by Chief Deputy Allen and officers. After a search, Mrs. Bailey Smith and Mrs. Felix Jones found $1100 in paper money hidden in a baby's diaper, and the party was jailed for investigation.
Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Dedrick of Jamesville Wisconsin visited the southwest country for a week and found a thick piece of ultra violet ray colored glass. They fashioned it into a perfect miniature arrowhead for the Chamber of Commerce.
The Jubilee Circle will meet with Mrs Bryan Hall on Thursday March 18. All members please be present.
Fred A. Foure arrested at Deming faced a district court hearing with advice from Washington cutting light on a two page criminal record. Judge Hay called it the longest criminal record for a single individual in that court. Ada Woodbury noted the two full pages. Foure pleaded not guilty and may face trial later if no change occurs.
FE Lewis, cashier of the First National Bank, is visiting Fort Bayard for a brief medical examination. He joined Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders in the Cuban-American war and is expected to return home soon, much to the relief of his many friends. Mrs. Rowland Barksdale and her two children from Del Rio, Texas, are visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs. T. J. Sullivan.
A miscellaneous shower was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs Ray Anderson of Red Rock for the recent bride and groom. Guests included Mr and Mrs Ray Gordon and many relatives. Gifts were opened publicly, thanks expressed, and refreshments served as the couple sang That Old Pal of Mine.

First round schedule lists Tucumcari vs Wingate at 8:00, Lordsburg vs Springer at 9:00, Des Moines vs Lake Arthur at 10:00, Santa Fe vs Hatch at 11:00, Roswell vs Floyd at 1:00, Socorro vs Santa Fe Indians at 2:00, Gallup vs Albuquerque at 3:00, Portales vs Endee at 4:00.

Robert Swan Post No 30 of the American Legion held a lively meeting at the courthouse in Lordsburg. Permanent officers elected include Claude F. Sanders as Post Commander EB Payne as Adjutant W W Feoll as 1st Vice Commander Frank Weldon as Vice Commander H A Brown as Sgt at Arms and A P Mortensen as post chaplain.
George Bal keld, 85, brother of Mrs. B. B. Ownby, died at his California home Saturday March 6 after two days illness from chronic pneumonia. He leaves a sister, a son, a daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The Lordsburg residents Salkeld family were well known. A Christian man, respected as a fine American. Also notes Mrs John Berry returned from Crystal City Texas after three months with her mother.
General John J. Pershing and his sister Miss May Pershing visited Lordsburg on Sunday night with Sergeant Shaeffer and Mrs Shaffer. The party praised Lordsburg and its water and sunshine and planned an eastward journey toward the king’s coronation. The general will sail for England in April with the Cadillac to be shipped for use in London.
El Paso Trade Trippers describes Lordsburg as a sunshine belt health resort with pure water and air. It extols a modern school system, churches, a new City Hall, a county library health department building, a government airport, a busy Banner Mining plant, growing gas supply, new sidewalks, and a thriving financial and educational scene including local champions in 4-H and basketball.
Church calls spring gospel meetings beginning Sunday March 21 through March 24 nightly evangelistic messages. Not an Easter meeting but a gospel event. Texts include Bower Beed and Soil at 11 00 am and The Worlds Hope at 7 40 pm. All are welcome and urged to invite friends and children.
Mr and Mrs KR B Ownby of Douglas spent the week end with Mrs Nora Ownby, sharing time in the city.
Chief Deputy Sheriff J C O Leary and Roscoe Wright of Hartey with Mrs Buelah Burtch and Mrs May Scott of Silver City visited Lordsburg Sunday afternoon. O Leary regretted not meeting his old friend General John J Pershing, who arrived about an hour after they left.
Mr and Mrs Marcus Neelly received a wire announcing the arrival at the Tucson home of Mr and Mrs M P B Walker of a baby. They expect a son and offer congratulations.
Mr and Mrs W H Walter and their little daughter of Anima were in Lordsburg on Monday.
