Zoo Magic Show Slated For March 28 At Lordsburg High

Lordsburg Music Boosters present the Zogi TV Revue at the Lordsburg High School Cafetorium on Tuesday March 28 with a live in person cast. Tickets are on sale in advance through the Chamber of Commerce and Boosters and priced cheaper ahead of showtimes 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. The revue features a $1500 Houdini act and acts from TV land plus specialty performers and a Chinese Flower Garden import in a season highlight.

Peace Corps Placement Test Offered In Silver City

Lordsburg area residents are invited to the Peace Corps Placement Test at 1 30 p m on Saturday the 18th at the main Post Office in Silver City. The test assesses general aptitude and language ability and is not a measure of education. The test has no pass or fail result and placement depends on the application. Applicants should submit or present forms to the tester. applications may be obtained locally or from Peace Corps Washington DC.

Local Guard Unit Participates In Command Post Exercise

Btry C 2nd AW Bn SP 200th Army National Guard has joined Command Post Exercise Talon Shield led by Fourth U.S. Army. The drill runs from February 18 to March 9 with weekend sessions March 11 and 12 50 pm to 10 pm and 8 am to 5 pm respectively.

Noted Trumpet Soloist To Appear In Deming Band Spring Concert

The Deming High School Wildcat Band will feature trumpet soloist Carl Doc Severinson at the spring concert on Tuesday March 14 at 8 p.m. in the D H S Gym. He will perform The Painted Desert Concerto for Trumpet Portrait of a Trumpet Carnival of Venice and La Virgen de la Macarena. An afternoon show for students is scheduled with a 50 cent charge and the 4 p.m. evening concert has admission of 1.00 for students and 1.50 for adults. All are invited to hear the Deming Wildcat Band and Doc Severinson.

Mike Collins Completes Recruit Training

Seaman Apprentice Herbert Mike Collins U S Navy recently finished recruit training at Naval Training Center San Diego California and visited his parents Mr and Mrs Herbert Collins of 315 S Penn Lordsburg He is a 1966 Lordsburg High School graduate and received orders to report to the Service School Command in San Diego for basic electronics and radio school He will be assigned to the fleet as a radio man after graduation

Tarango Marine Killed in Vietnam Action

Marine Lance Corporal Magdaleno Tarango, 20, was killed in action in Vietnam on Sunday March 5. He was the son of Mrs Antonia Tarango of Lordsburg. His body will be shipped home in about seven days for funeral arrangements.

U S Savings Bonds Remain Popular in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County residents bought 3269 dollars in U S Savings Bonds in January this year. County Chairman Ralph Burton notes January 1966 total was 2153 dollars. Statewide January purchases reached 1 517 052 dollars, up 6 44 percent from a year ago. A new U S Savings Note called Freedom Shares will be available May 1 with 4 74 percent interest, compounded semi annually for four and a half years. Buyers must use Bond a Month plans at banks or Payroll Savings plans and start monthly purchases.

Lordsburg Seventh Graders Win Silver City Tourney

Lordsburg's seventh graders capped an undefeated 11–0 season by winning the Silver City tournament on February 20. They beat Silver City 41–28 and then defeated Cobre 387–23 in the championship, with Barry Burton and Manuel Morelos earning scoring honors. Burton led the year with 17.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, while Escobar added 16.8 points and 8.0 rebounds. Team members include Alvarez, Esquivel, Morelos, Escobar, Diaz, and coach Phil DeFoor.

Rebuilding TV Cable System Set For Lordsburg Upgrade

Complete rebuilding of the City TV Cable Co. system will begin this week. Bob Harwood said a Phoenix firm specializes in this work and three new channels from El Paso, Tucson, and Albuquerque will be added to bring six TV channels and one FM radio channel. The project aims for completion around the first of April and requires an extension of the current franchise, to be considered by the City Council on March 9.

Thomas P. Sellers Jr of Madison New Jersey, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas P Sellers, wins a four year college scholarship through the National Achievement Scholarship Program. A 1967 Madison High School graduate, he majors in Political Science with a career in International Law. He is active in National Honor Society Debate Club Student Council and other school groups.
