Mavericks Aim for State Tournament Victory

Observation Post notes Mavericks fans hope for a state bid as officials may award a June contract. Mayor Koff and Rev. Arthur Shaw helped junior Palme boys display their badges last Saturday, with several photos taken though only some could be printed this week. A meeting is planned for Saturday.

Will of Emma Marble Muir Probate Filed

The will of late Emma Marble Muir time resident of Hidalgo is filed for probate. She leaves 100 bequests to numerous individuals including Emma Jane Gorsuch Sue Dee Jackson Ida Rath Smith Dewey Mc Culberson Edna Gor Joe Gorsuch Edith Kipp Oma Olney and Lillian Reynolds. The list includes the Muir and Kipp families with many grandchildren Rex B Jr John Muir Kipp and Marble Kipp among beneficiaries. The filing names the New Mexico area entities and affiliated organizations.

Eugene Montague Retires After 75 Years of Service

Eugene Montague, acting postmaster in 1933 and postmaster since 1934, retires after reaching mandatory retirement age. A Bandera Texas native, his career spans autos with General Motors, military service in World War I, and deep community work in Lordsburg including fire chief, city council member, and March of Dimes leader.

City Deliberates Dog Catcher And Park Projects

At a Monday City Hall meeting officials decided a city employee will collect strays, impound them at the pump house, and destroy unclaimed dogs after three days. Mayor Koff reported progress on the park north of the railroad tracks and Ernest Short Memorial Park plans, and noted January gasoline tax receipts of 5400.

Estrada Dies in Auto Crash on U S Highway 250

Exiquio P. Estrada 42, son of Mrs Adela Estrada, was killed when his car failed to negotiate a curve on U S 250 inside Silver City. The death brings the year's highway toll to 65, up from 59 last year. Survived by wife Madina Victoria Estrada and three children of Lordsburg, father Juan Estrada of California.

Animas FFA Receives Four Registered Durocs

The Animas FFA Chapter received four registered Duroc gilts raised by Melvin J. Feik and Son from La Moille Illinois. The gilts cost about 360 dollars each and are bred to farrow in March.

Mavericks Defeat Cloudcroft for District 4-B Title

Lordsburg Mavericks won the New Mexico District 4-B High School Tournament in Alamogordo led by David Estrada with 15 points in the final and Jim Redford scoring 14 after returning from an ankle injury. Cloudcroft trailed 57 43 as Lordsburg claimed the district crown and earned a regional bid to Roswell on March 6 7.

First Methodist WSCS to Meet at Kipp Home
