Wreck Halts SP Freight 30 Miles East of Lordsburg
A broken draw bar on an eastbound Southern Pacific freight caused a wreck 30 miles east of Lordsburg at 1:30 A M Tuesday. Eighteen cars derailed and 0.25 miles of track were torn up. No injuries, though bulldozer operator Jack Smith was briefly trapped. A rapid repair crew built a detour within eight hours and trains resumed service. The cargo consisted of tomatoes from western Mexico bound for eastern markets.

Cotton growers attending the Cotton Caravan in Lordsburg last Thursday heard experts discuss crop health and disease control. County Agent Ed Eitson opened with themes on fertilizers barnyard manure and legume rotations. G B Hoff outlined fertilizer use noting manure and legumes build soil, improve structure and release nutrients gradually. Hoff cited New Mexico A M Experiment Station data showing alfalfa rotations raise cotton yields by about 338 pounds per acre over four years and suggested 40 pounds phosphate and 80 to 100 pounds nitrogen when rotations are not feasible.

Frontier Airlines To Discontinue Air Service Here
Frontier Airlines will end service to Lordsburg on April 28 1953 after the Civil Aeronautics Board denied authority to continue the route. Deming and Las Cruces also share the shut down due to low traffic levels and high government mail pay, with Las Cruces at .15 passengers per departure, Lordsburg .34, and Deming .46 in the third quarter of 1952.
