Navy man killed in two vehicle crash on State Highway 14
Thetford, 23, of the States Navy, was instant killed about 4:30 AM Tuesday when his 1949 Pontiac collided with a truck bearing frozen goods on State Highway 14, miles west of Lords. The truck was driven by Beck of Cassville, Miss. Thetford’s companions H D Me of McKinney Texas and R Choates of Cookville were uninjured. The accident was blamed on Thetford’s falling asleep at the wheel.

Mavericks Win 4 B Basketball Championship at Hatch
In a four team playoff at Hatch last Saturday the Mavericks defeated Cliff for the District Championship. Cliff had defeated the Tularose Wildcats 62-57 to reach the finals, while the Mavericks beat Cloudcroft 75-61 to reach the final. Tularosa later took third place by defeating Ciloucroft.
