Highway marker site eyed for Solar Radiation Observatory

State Highway Engineer Burton G. Dwyre sent field staff to inspect the Lordsburg Cloverdale Hachita road with Mike Gallegos guiding a test run. They logged 148 miles east over the St. Louis Pass to Hachita and met with Commissioner Townsend and the Chamber of Commerce to discuss a historical marker location.

Sheriff John P. Cavin aided by railroad agents traces a post office robbery to El Paso where eight stamps and $1.82 in cash were found on a suspect. The case proceeds through the Post Office Department with Inspector M. H. Land. A separate arrest, of a hot check artist linked to the Arizona System Freight Lines, was made in Las Cruces.

Study Course on Old Testament Prophet Led by Rev Hall

About twelve persons are enrolled in Rev Bryan Hall's study course at the Methodist church. The lectures cover the contributions of individual prophets to Hebrew conceptions and match university graduate standards. The course was offered this week at the Methodist parsonage and will be repeated next week at the Las Cruces Methodist church.

Judge Hay Holds Short Term Court in Lordsburg

District Judge George W. Hay opened a brief term in Lordsburg on Tuesday, trying one divorce case and signing minor orders. He had been bedridden with flu. C. C. Fowler accompanied him as court reporter. District Attorney Joseph W. Hodges assisted with criminal matters during the visit. The party then traveled to Deming after Lordsburg for a Luna County session.

Justice Court Busy in Lordsburg Traffic Violations

Justice of the Peace C. W. Marsalis handled numerous traffic ordinance cases in Lordsburg last week. Vehicles were warned for two hour parking on Railroad Avenue, with summons issued and several defendants pleading guilty. Officers aimed to enforce village ordinances against vagrancy and other violations.

El Paso Natural Gas to Build 190-Mile Line to Arizona

El Paso Natural Gas Company of El Paso Texas plans an 86 8 inch pipeline extension from compressor station 4 near Gage to Miami Arizona 190 miles northwest to supply the Miami Copper Company. Construction will take about four and a half to five months with 119 workers on site and staging yards at Gage and Lordsburg as pipe is cleaned primed hot coated wrapped and laid along the route.

Death of Lt Alfred S Deaton shocks Hollywood

Lieutenant Alfred S Deaton head of the Hollywood crime prevention bureau died from a cerebral hemorrhage after collapsing at a pistol range. He was 40, served 15 years, survived by his widow Nadine and a 13-year-old son John. Funeral plans awaiting word from his mother in New Mexico.
