Mock Trial Team To Compete In Cruces
The LHS Mock Trial Team travels to Dona Ana Judicial Complex Las Cruces on Saturday March 2 for regional competition. Round one at 9 AM sees Team O of LHS prosecute team L. round two at 1 PM has LHS defend. Finalists advance to state finals in Albuquerque March 22-23 with the national winner in New Orleans early May.

Impressive Playas ceremony honors armed forces
A candlelight ceremony and prayer meeting in Playas honored area men and women in the service. Sponsored by the Southwest Ministerial Alliance with St. Augustine Parish and other religious groups, it featured a flag ceremony by the Lordsburg National Guard Honor Guard and local scouts, photos and names of service personnel, heartfelt readings, solos by Sharon Driver and Dale Bittle, and group singing led by Clair Dutton and Gwen O'Brien.

Lordsburg Parents Advisory Council Formally Organized Here
About 35 parents teachers and administrators formed the Lordsburg School District Parents Advisory Council with Cindy Peterson and Helen Allred as co chairs for the interim period. Committees were created for Prom night awards field trips and outreach while test workshops for state exams are planned for the week of March 18. The next meeting is March 20 at 7 PM at DTMS with meetings every third Wednesday.

Ernest Lazos Is Sentenced To Six Months In Jail
Ernest Lazos Jr was found guilty by jury of possession of a controlled substance in Hidalgo County. Judge Manuel Saucedo sentenced him to 11 months with five months suspended. he currently serves six months. If released early he must attend a 21 day alcohol program and address the SADD group at Lordsburg High School. A $1000 fine with $500 suspended and a $75 crime lab fee were ordered, payment to begin July 15 1991.

Five Year Plan For Airport A Possibility
Lordsburg Municipal Airport may be upgraded through a five year plan. Mayor Salvador Diaz Jr says Armstrong Consultants are drafting plans after evaluating the facility in February. Dennis Engineering of Socorro will also inspect the airport and assist planning. City Council will review before decisions and March discussion. Grant funding may follow with council approval.

The City of Lordsburg bought three humane traps to curb dogs running loose. Animal Control Officer Robert DeLaGarza notes bites have occurred and some pets lack proof of rabies vaccination. Rabies shots are required by state law and city ordinance. citations will continue. Owners are urged to confine pets to their yards.
