Mayor Alan A. Koff reports Lordsburg's south end without water Tuesday night and only one foot of water in the tank at 9am Wednesday. Daily usage reaches about 2.5 million gallons while production lags behind demand despite three wells operating at full capacity.
A 16 year old from Lordsburg, Glenn L. Foust, drowned at Lake Roberts in the Gila National Forest on Sunday. State police and Grant County deputies recovered his body Monday after divers battled murky bottom waters. Funeral arrangements are pending. Heather Mortuary is named for the deceased in Lordsburg.
Mayor Alan A. Koff announced the city may have passed the critical stage of a water shortage as supply gains and normal seasonal conditions near. A new 2.75 million gallon storage tank should be completed and ready for filling next week, with two new pumps starting once tank sterilization is done. Residents are urged to limit water use to essentials.
An inquest into the 22 year old Ray Edington Jr. death from gunfire is scheduled Friday at 10 a.m. in Hidalgo County Courthouse. Edington was shot by Hidalgo County Deputy Victor B Moore at about 2 30 a m near Animas after a prior quarrel over Moore actions.
