John J. Joerns state school auditor and Tax Expert McNatt met with county commissioners and boards of Lordsburg education to discuss the high standard of area schools. The rural Valedon schools were not included. officials refused to lower the school banner, and Joerns left with no changes.
The melon season is at its height with frequent Southern Pacific melon trains through Lordsburg achieving 40 hours from Yuma to El Paso. Each train carries 66 cars, all loaded at Yuma and Tucson, and 160 trains are planned. The west ships early melons to the east due to earlier growing seasons.
Since November 1921 Southern Pacific has handled 560,900 cars with damage to only eight. The repair cost for all damaged cars was $155. The Liberal notes this as an unmatched national record, praising efficiency and Safety First across the railway system.
Mrs. M. M. Stevens of Los Angeles sends a 200 check to Willard E. Holt for another year of the Lordsburg Liberal. She expresses belief in a bright future for Lordsburg and enjoyment of the publication and its boosting efforts.
Sherman of Deming New Mexico has been notified that his bid to supply an air service Curtiss MAD tractor biplane with OX5 engine has been accepted. The aircraft will be shipped from Memphis Tennessee and is expected soon.

John P. Kerr and Willard E. Holt joined the order as Pythian Sisters in Animas after a well conducted initiation Monday evening followed by a banquet enjoyed by all attendees.
The Cahimet & Arizona Mining Co. ships about 7500 tons of gold silver copper monthly from 11 levels down 1350 ft. New Norberg hoist, 750 KVA turbine power, and 375 KVA diesel upgrade operations. Charles Fuller and family and Emma Fuller attended the Martin reunion at Chas Martins home in Dun can. Mrs. Martin, parents of Mrs. Fuller, hosted the all day picnic with about forty guests and twenty seven grandchildren and seven children. The yard provided ideal shade for a barbecue and celebration. The annual June gathering is a long standing event anticipated by all attendees.
The Stark Theatre features The Kentucky Gentleman a 35¢ 25¢ double bill on June 29 and 30 with Antono Moreno in the graphic reel. Sunday July 2 shows Three Sevens star Antono Moreno followed by Silk Hosiery with Enied Bennett on Monday July 3. No show July 4 5 6. July 6 presents Testing Block starring Wm Hart and July 7 The Call of Home Robertson Cole Picture.
Eddie Allen and Dee Hall have taken over the Owl Club from Frank Johnson who will move to Agua Prieta Mexico to start a business. Johnson stays connected to the family here and the new owners pledge personal attention to the business.
The Church of Christ lists services for Sunday July 2. Bible School at 10 a.m. Worship at 11: a.m. Endeavor Meeting at 7 p.m. Evening topic is Patriotism and Christiantity at 8 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Stephens welcome a son, with Alfred Brune and Charles Vincent Stephens noted in the church and family circles as part of the naming conversations. The chosen name is described as fitting and well considered after a long selection.
Miss Inez Trimble entertained at a Tuesday evening dance with twenty four guests. Live music provided by the Lordsburg string band and local residents Dr. Banks Austin Ed die O'Brien and Mrs. W C Burney. Fine eats noted.
Lillie and Lula Olney hosted a lighthearted party for several girl friends Friday night. Guests wore childish costumes, enjoyed games, and shared eats, with much sport and merriment throughout.
Richard Warren division freight agent of the ER. P. & 8S. W. system was in Lordsburg on Tuesday, regarded as one of the outstanding railroad men of the Southwest.
General Manager John C. Greenway of the A. Co. gave Supt. K. L. Mohler a pleasing once over yesterday.
Beautiful rains have blessed Hidalgo county this week and residents express gratitude. Furniture for sale is advertised with applications at the Sheral o office.
A New Mexico town reports viewing the Wonder Train of the World, twenty Baldwin locomotives built for the Southern Pacific Prosperity Special. Each engine houses a crew cab with sleeping and cooking facilities, two American flags on the front, and Supt. Wilson’s private car accompanying the train. The units weigh 621,000 pounds, travel daylight only, and include a rear booster to aid starting and climbing grades. Lordsburg hails as the only New Mexico town listed in the official schedule.
M. M. Owens, boss of the round house, claims he put through eight engines in eight hours. He likens the pace to eating ice cream and says a 600 car freight run in one day signals prosperity and a forthcoming prosperity special.
Eugene Montague visited El Paso and suburbs over Sunday. Deputy Sheriff Earle Kerr was in Las Vegas on official business this week. Cordelia Augustine and family vacation on XT ranch with Johnnie and Tom McCabe and Otia Coles of Fi Pasa. Rev. Campbell will preach at the Methodist church morning and evening. Deputy Sheriff J H Turpin met his daughter Donna returned from Greensboro Alabama. The town recounts Ritter and a bank awning collapse with Tom Tong's stove seen in the dining room. the old safe was missing from Wes Chase's.
The Liberal regrets that the Southern Pacific may be separated from the Central Pacific under a Supreme Court decree unless the Interstate Commerce Commission allows merger. Separation would trench on Pacific coast interests, splitting lines from northern California to Portland and Yuma to near Sacramento, harming Nevada Utah and extending to Texas and Louisiana.
Judge Haymond HW. yan has appointed Mrs. Cross as a member of the county board of education. Mrs. Cross recently visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jackson, at Las Cruces following the resignation of J. Inder rieden.
Miss Bertha Toliver returns home and Miss Pearl Crocket has been ill for five days. About one mile of Lang ranch posts burned last week. Turpin of Cloverdale visited the J ranch during the fire week. Tom Upshaw and family spent the start of the week with friends on the Lower Ammons. A July 4 Cloverdale picnic and barbecue promises opening events, horse racing and dancing for all.
Kansas men L. B. and L. C. Scott, noted figures, were dinner guests last evening of BE. F. Lyday and family. The visitors were former neighbors at Bowie.
The Liberal editor notes P. Iman taking his wife and four young sons to view the Prosperity Special at 4:30 a.m. The scene reflects interest from employees in the event.
A farmer reports a 7.5 by 6 inch Black Minorca egg laid yesterday by his hen owned by W D Taylor. The unusual size drew attention at the farm.
