Bishop Metzger Dedicates New St Joseph Church in Lordsburg

His Excellency Bishop Metzger from El Paso dedicated the new St Joseph Church on June 14 replacing the 1903 building. The ceremony featured Rev James Hay and Rev Daniel Alderette with Monsignor Gaynor as guest, and 265 confirmations were given. An open house is slated for June 24 with explanations of church objects and vestments.

Mrs Molina wins five minute shopping spree at Saucedo's

Mrs. Molina of Lordsburg won a Hidalgo County Pepsi Bottling Co spree. Natalia Blake shopped at Saucedo's Food Market for five minutes carrying groceries valued at 34.25 dollars. Pepsi Cola provided drinks and S H Green Stamps. Wednesday double stamp day boosted bonuses.

Junior Rifle Club Organized For Hidalgo County Youths

Bank Robber Sentenced in Lordsburg Case

Simon Leon Anderson was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Judge Sam Bratton in Albuquerque for the October robbery of the First National Bank of Lordsburg, $924, after psychiatric treatment. Virginia Dunkerson was threatened with a shotgun during the heist. Anderson was captured minutes later nearby. James K E Franco, 28, of Bisbee, pleaded guilty to a January bank robbery of $12,595 and faces July sentencing. he used a toy pistol and was arrested in a hotel room near the bank.

Bounds elected Director of Chamber Executives' Association

The New Mexico Chamber Executives Association held a spring meeting in Pueblo Colorado from June 14 to 16. Mrs Betty Bounds of Lordsburg was elected a director along with Ray Franz Portales and Bob Walker Ruidoso. Jerry Robison Albuquerque was named president Chad Wymer Las Cruces vice president Dorothy Meng Raton secretary treasurer. The next NMCEA meeting is planned for September in Durango Colorado.
