Dr Hoyt C Graham president of Teachers College at Si died after a ten day hospital stay following an appendectomy and illness. The death blanketed the area as a sudden loss of a prominent figure in education and local life.
A doe appeared at the Bader home near the Hatchet mountains, crossing a fence and gate to reach a water source as Mr. and Mrs. Bader watched from their porch. The sighting occurred after a mining camp visit noted by Liberal representatives, highlighting mining activity and potential highway connections to Hidalgo county.
The Ford Motor Company pioneered the first assembly plant in South California for Ford cars on Seventh and F Street in Los Angeles about fifty years ago. The Union Oil Company issues a top highway map of the western states listing Lordsburg along with Albuquerque Gallup and Santa Fe in the New Mexico mileage table. The map is praised as exceptionally fine and reflects the big town status.
Jim Valentine used bonus money to buy a Plymouth for himself. Roy Heard Levain Kerr and an Arizona motorist were involved in a Sunday afternoon crash in front of the Vendone Hotel. Cars suffered light damage but no injuries occurred.
Pete Chase Claude Olney and Dr. R. E. Buvens competed as contestants in the Southwest Championship Golf Tournament held across Friday Saturday and Sunday in Silver City.

Miss Dorothy Walker and Marcus Neeley drove to Tucson for the weekend and on their return brought Miss Jean Walker sister of Dorothy who will stay a week with her. Jean notes a great change in Lordsburg since she left a few years ago.
Mr and Mrs Millard C Hardin traveled from Tucson to spend the week end with Mrs Hardins sister Mrs Gracie Conner and Mr Hardin s mother Mrs Minnie Hardin Ira C Conner is Minn ie Hardin s brother making him Millard s uncle Mrs Gracie Conner is Millard s sister making Ira Conner Millard s brother in law This also makes Millard s cousins his nieces and nephews.
Clyde Weed of the Cananea Mining Company in Sonora Mexico arrives with Mrs Weed and their son from the White Mountains after a brief summer vacation. He praises James T Wells who has worked in his office for six years, as Wells visits from his parents Mr and Mrs J L Wells for the weekend.
Bill Franklin, son of a noted Salt Lake City mining engineer and consulting engineer for Banner Mining, arrived Sunday. He is accompanied by Frank Turner, who has accepted a position as carpenter with Banner Mining Company.
Mildred Dunagan hosted a birthday for her son Joe who turned six on Tuesday. Guests included Laverne Pankey Buddy Pankey Alice Wood Litta Eppstein Phillip Shook Fay Nalle y Mrs Crider and her son Terry Mia Dunagan helped. Refreshments and a birthday cake with candles were served as games were played and Joe opened presents.
Mrs. 8 R Dunagan and Mrs Hardin left Wednesday for Los Angeles to visit sister Mrs Charles Lindsey and brother Henry Conner along with friends.
Miss Shirley Henslee is at the Masonic Hospital in El Paso awaiting an operation slated for Wednesday. Friends express confidence in a favorable outcome and look forward to her recovery with many well wishes.

Mr. and Mrs. Hugh H. Williams and their son Hugh J. called on Lordsburg friends Wednesday morning. The family are now staying at the Todhunter ranch while the owners enjoy a summer vacation.
Contractor Jack Heather begins work on a four room house with bath and front porch and rear sleeping porch for Mrs Nora Ownby on Court House Street. The project adds another residence to the street.

Mrs. Robert E. Witherell returned from Boston after an important matter. She traveled from El Paso to Boston by air and came back by train to El Paso, meeting her husband and son. Accompanied by Mrs. Caro Stearns, she will spend several weeks at the Witherell home in the new South High Street house built by Jack Heather.
Judge George W. Hay traveled to Lordsburg on Monday to inspect court records and ensure the docket was in order before his summer vacation in Pennsylvania. He plans to visit relatives in the Midwest and with Mrs. Hay will tour relatives in her area during the trip.
Deming village officials face pressure from rising natural gas service demand. State PWA director E H Oakley says meter connections exceed original plans, with only half the needed meters included. The village may seek an extra loan as construction nears completion while considering a $4,000 bond excess and a 90 percent reserve to cover costs.

The Soil Conservation Service uses planimetric line maps topographic maps and aerial mosaics to show drainage and cultural features and land slopes. Over 200000 square miles of eroded land have been mapped since 1934 including areas near Boulder Dam.

The county rate for the soil-conserving payment announced last week may differ from individual farmer payments under the 1046 Agricultural Conservation Program. W A Wunsch of New Mexico State College says rates depend on each farm’s productivity. Lower rainfall or poorer soil can yield rates below the national average of 10 dollars per acre, while richer counties show higher rates. Productivity indexes were prepared by the Agricultural Adjustment Administration using the 1923 to 1922 soil data and county acreage proportions to compute county indices.
Rh M Reynolds and family completed a six thousand mile journey to Detroit to take delivery of a Plymouth two door sedan through Olney Motor Co. They traveled via Eigin Tl Kanana Cty St Louis and Denver visiting relatives. A minor collision occurred near Silver City when a Mexican driver in a Ford cut in front of Reynolds. damage to Reynolds car was insured.

Louisa Adeline Roberts Washburn born February 6 1854 in Brownwood Texas died June 20 1936 at age 82 4 16 married to Charles Henry Washburn of Missouri and longtime resident of the county.
