Hidalgo County Education Board Elected by Committee

Six of eight committee members met at County Clerk Cross office Monday afternoon to elect the Hidalgo County Board of Education. R M Reynolds was chosen chair and B H Cross clerk. Members named: J R Beavers Virden district 1 R M Reynolds Lordsburg district 2 John T McCabe Animas at large H D Horne Valedon. The board will organize on the first Monday in July with Dora Kerr as secretary.

Bears Fall To Silver City Grays In Rough Game

A large crowd in Silver City watched Lordsburg Bear Cats lose 11 to 16 amid accusations of unfair umpiring. McMeans and Allen pitched well until a 15 year old phenom Garrett Arbelbide struck down foes. Allison provided solid catching.

Thirty Masons Attend Sermon On Saint John The Baptist

Thirty members of the Masonic fraternity attended Sunday morning worship at the Methodist church. Rev. C V Williams delivered a sermon on Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of the Order, to an audience that included at least one speaker who was not yet a member.

Good Woman Mary Foley Passes to Higher Life Yesterday

Mary C Foley wife of Peter M Foley died yesterday afternoon after a long illness at their Lordsburg home. Rev C Williams will preach the funeral this afternoon from the family residence with Heather Undertaking Co guiding. Burial will be in Mountainview cemetery. She was born Mary Carstensen in Steubenville Ohio on August 28 1875 and married October 13 1896. They moved to Lordsburg twelve years ago and had six children Harry Tucson and Mrs Dorothy Hughes Mrs Helen Moorehead Martin Charles and Mary Louise all of Lordsburg plus six grandchildren. A brother in McKeesport Pa survives. The family and community express deepest sympathy.

Reynolds Lands Oil Deal In Hidalgo County

Mr and Mrs R M Reynolds and baby Bobby traveled to Santa Fe and leased 24 sections of oil land from the state in Hidalgo county. Reynolds represented 24 local people and paid nearly eight hundred big iron men to the land commissioner for the right to dig oil wells as development proceeds. Other locals discuss forming another group to join the venture for equal benefits.

Lordsburg Special Car of Many Parts

The Lordsburg Special is being built at Jimmy's Shop by Jimmy Hughes Walter Hughes and Jack Moorehead. It features a Buick frame Oakland front axle Ford rear end balloon tires and a home made body. Jimmy plans to debut the racer at Douglas on the 4th.

Large Improvements On Christian Church

Contractor Edwarda has started extensive work on the Christian church. A new roof will be installed, a modern tower replaces the old one, a new floor will be laid in the audience room, a beam support post will be removed and a truss will serve the purpose.
