Pete Bates and twoSteins family members arrived in Lordsburg Thursday morning after an extended vacation along the Pacific coast. The travelers report a pleasant trip and plan to resume local duties soon.
Robert Rhoades, recently returned from twenty one months overseas with the Third Fleet, is on a 32 day leave in Lordsburg. He trained 2% months at San Diego and served in Guadalcanal where he met Walter Mullins. He wore the American theater and Asiatic Pacific ribbons with two battle stars and spent Christmas of 1943 and 1944 at sea aboard ship. He urges support for War Bonds and Stamps.
The Office of Price Administration announced that only sellers with adequate reconditioning and service facilities can charge warranted prices for used cars trucks and motorcycles after August 1. A warranted vehicle includes a written guarantee to cover stated repairs at half price for 30 days or 1000 miles, whichever comes first. Some dealers lack proper arrangements and will be restricted unless they secure permission.
The district OPA office announced an effective date of July 14 for a regulation that limits hours charged for 56 common passenger car repairs. It was first announced as effective June 14 to curb shops overcharging for labor. War Price and Rationing Boards in New Mexico are distributing copies of the rule to auto repair shops.
Charles D Green of the Texas Oil Company told KOB radio that tire supply remains tight. Deputy OPA administrator Max McCullough outlined three conditions to improve access for A motorists: clear the backlog of tire applications, double dealer and distributor stocks, and accelerate production to meet demand. He noted production is down and many applications are unfilled.
The district OPA office states causes of a sugar shortage including Philippines damage delaying supplies until late 1946 or early 1947. It notes Cuba will drop output by 450000 tons due to drought and hurricanes and Puerto Rico faces labor-related supply cuts.
OPA reported penalties on more than 1043 violators of price rent and rationing rules across six Rocky Mountain states in the first four months of 1945. Over 230 injunction suits were filed, 231 treble damage actions were taken. Twelve license suspensions, rationed food revocations in 30 cases, 36 criminal proceedings, 254 damage settlements, 141 administrative suspensions and one contempt action were recorded.

The parents of Alfonso Beltri received his Air Medal posthumously last week after he died over Munich last fall. A letter from Lt. R. L. Mushbeck of Deming Air Field offered two Oak Leaf Clusters via home mailing or a ceremony at the Deming Air Field. No final method was chosen yet.
Col Cain Memory Caain of Deming commanded New Mexico’s 200th on Bataan and was freed from a Japanese prison. He is improving at Bruns General Hospital in Santa Fe after an operation last week. Maj Erich Hausner did not reveal the operation’s nature.

Special Agent in Charge announced the next FBI Law Enforcement Conference will gather officers from Grant Lana and Catron counties at 5 p m June 29 in Grant County Court Room Silver City Sheriff Owen C Matthews will give opening remarks Notable attendees include Frank Young New Mexico State Police Chief and Nile T Kjellstromh Assistant District Attorney Hot Springs who will lecture on arrest laws Special Agent Hugh J Pharies will show fugitive slides and discuss investigations The program will close with the film Fury in the Pacific and the event is part of FBI sponsored statewide series to study enforcement challenges.
The regular monthly American Legion Auxiliary meeting was held June 14 at Mia Messecar's home. Mrs Effie Weatheran installed officers and Myrtle Kerr became president. Treasurer reports balance of 386007 and Poppy Day raised 203. Auxiliary members sold 10 263 56 in bonds and sent stationery and magazines to hospitalized boys with replies of appreciation.
A June July birthday party was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Homer Brooks in their yard for Hidalgo County Court House employees with June and July birthdays. Attendees included county officials and families, with dinner, games, and group photos by the Redfords.
Editor and Mrs Don Lusk and Mr and Mrs Paul Hunter of Silver City visited on Father’s Day June 17. Mrs Mabel Janowski Hidalgo Flower Shop manager attended as dinner guest.
Mrs Harber Heather and Mrs Walter Mullins travel to Carolina California to visit Har ber Heather now in Navy Hospital. Walter Mullins USN is stationed on Guam Island.
Miss Betty Reynolds travels to San Diego California to begin her studies at a new school. This move marks a personal transition as she pursues education away from home.
An honorary pallbearer list includes Tron H Veurbee of the House of Kepr for the late Alvan N White former speaker and state legislatures dean. Hubert Jeffus died as a POW from a Jop ship attack in the China Sea and will be remembered in Lordsburg with family survivors in New Mexico and Texas.
Tuesday evening a birthday party for Dick Richards was hosted by Mr and Mrs Gedree Pendleton in Cloverdale. Guests included Mr and Mrs Henry Kicks and Elizabeth Ann, Mr and Mrs Homer Gaither, Mr and Mrs Irvin Goats, Mr and Mrs Pete Pascoe, Mr and Mrs Robert Hutchinson, Mr and Mrs George Pendleton, Mrs Elison, and the Richards family. A separate Saturday gathering hosted by Mrs Richards and Mrs Pendleton brought Lois Ann Richards and Tommy Pendleton together with ten mothers and children.
Mrs Elizabeth C T Warren first Grand Matron of the New Mexico Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and pioneer of Silver City died Monday at Silver City General Hospital after a fall two weeks earlier. She was prominent in civic work and loved by many. Funeral was held yesterday afternoon.
A weeks ago the American Legion Auxiliary asked Lordeburg residents to donate pocket edition books for Marines. Eighty five books were packed and sent to the coast last week. Now the group asks for used playing cards to be sent to hospitals and requests donations at the Variety Store for forwarding to where needed.
Mrs. Hazel Ellison relocates her beauty shop this week from Ellison Court to a home at Fifth and are Streets. The shop opens for business on Tuesday.
