Ballots Available for School Bond Vote at District Office

Ballots for the June 27 school bond election are now available at the Superintendent's Office beside the high school. Voters will decide on continuing a two mill levy for school capital improvements, last approved in 1975 and expiring this year.

Ambulance plan grows as Hidalgo seeks hospital fix

Hidalgo County commissioners met Tuesday June 6 addressing the closed Hidalgo General Hospital and airport lighting. Paramedic Don McNutton outlined an emergency ambulance service for out-of-county trips to Silver City with eight trips last weekend and anticipated higher loads until local care resumes. Doctor prospects and funding gaps were discussed with Dr Jacinto Lopez seeking county guarantees and doctor inquiries turning to the commission. The board planned to verify qualifications, study RC&D road options for Playas Lordsburg, and await further funding before approving new medical staff.

Lordsburg Air Show Draws Big Crowd

More than 400 spectators filled Lordsburg Municipal Airport on Sunday June 11 for the first air show in years. Visiting aircraft from New Mexico Arizona and Texas plus home made and new demonstrators filled the field. Three parachutists jumped from 12 000 feet, landing to loud applause as local officials noted economic activity from a mining lease sale.

Airport operator sues Lordsburg over airport contract

Two Injured In Accident On Highway 90 North

A woman driving from Tucson toward Silver City Friday evening June 9 at about 6 15 p m lost control at the 18 mile marker on Highway 90 north of Lordsburg Grant County. Susan Davis age and residence unknown was admitted to Hillcrest General Hospital in critical condition. Hidalgo Emergency Ambulance Lordsburg State Police Hidalgo Sheriff's officers Grant County Sheriff's Officers and State Police from Silver City responded. Davis was transported to Hillcrest and a male passenger was taken by other means and released.
