Woolen blanket drive to aid polio treatment in New Mexico

The Na Foundation for Infantile Inc reports a woolen blanket shortage for hot pack treatment of polio patients. An intensive state drive is set for Tuesday June 20 asking Lordsburg and Hidalgo county residents to donate old woolen blankets at Cochran Electric Appliance store on Rail Avenue. Donated blankets will be laundered and prepared in proper sizes for hot-packing.

Horse and Master Travel Cross Country With Comet

Rich ard Thompson of Presque Island Maine and his eight year old half Morgan half Belgian horse Comet travel from Maine to Los Angeles on a cross country trek begun October 19 1949. They have covered 17 states paid out seven horse shoe changes and added a wagon in Ruston Louisiana. Thompson 33 says the journey teaches him about nature and humanity though he faced losses and a riding accident near Culpepper Virginia that injured his arm and forced a pause.

Marshall Fuller Elected President of New Mexico County Officials

Marshall Fuller county clerk of Hidalgo County was elected president of the New Mexico Association of County Officials at the annual meeting in Truth or Consequences New Mexico. He previously served as first vice president and will oversee next year’s Albuquerque convention with other Hidalgo County officials attending.

Plans for Summer Round-Up Discussed

Nine members of the Lordsburg P T A met Saturday June 10 to discuss plans for the Summer Round-Up a health project of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers. The program aims to provide free medical and dental check ups for every child of school and pre school age including eyes ears nose throat heart teeth vaccinations and health surveys to detect and correct conditions early.

Teen Dance at American Legion Hall June 16

Teen-agers are invited to a June 16 dance at the American Legion Hall from 9 to 11 pm to distribute Lordsburg High School 1950 yearbooks. Bring receipts if already paid or $2.75 to buy a book. admission is 25 cents, juke box music, soft drinks sold, and autographs encouraged. College students home invited.

City of Rocks Hosts Open Air Masonic Degree

The City of Rocks near Silver City hosted an open air third degree for Tyronne and Lordsburg lodges on June 19 with a 6 p.m. barbecue. Masons from New Mexico and several other states attended, including Lordsburg members Rex Kipp and Alvin Parker among others. Chandler Davidson Wins Herald-Post Essay Contest

Chandler Davidson, 14, and Gail Bauer of El Paso were named winners in the Herald-Post essay contest for Boy Scouts in the Yucca Council. They were chosen from more than 26 entrants for essays on What Valley Forge Meant to a Boy Scout. Winners will have their $40 Jamboree registration paid by the Herald-Post and will attend the National Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pa., June 30 to July 9.

Frontier Airlines eye Lordsburg airport service plan

C Buckingham of Frontier Air Lines spoke at the Lions Club meeting last Tuesday. He said Frontier Airlines could start service to Lordsburg by July 16 if airport improvements are finished, with four daily trips connecting to El Paso and Phoenix using two motor DC-3 planes. The plan requires a warm up flight and runway grading by Co A A.
