Tragic Death of Local Teen In Lordsburg Accident

Mae Rendon 17, son of Monica A Rendon, died Sunday morning in an automobile accident in Lordsburg. Funeral at Heather Chapel with Rev officiating. He attended Lordsburg High School as an athlete and worked at the Post Office. Survived by parents Helen Chaires and Ida Rendon, two brothers Manuel and Elias, and grandparents Mrs Juliana and Mr Mon Sr. of Lordsburg.

Scouts Spend Week At Thunderbird Camp In New Mexico

Scouts from Lordsburg Silver City Hurley and Deming spent a week starting June 28 at Thunderbird on the Mim River. Mrs Margaret Gilver City directed the camp with Mr B C Jacobs of Hurley as manager. Doris Smith and Mrs ite Kuykendall of Lordsburg cooked. Roberta Poindexter served as aide. Lordsburg scouts Bivins Rita Smith and Wilder attended. Rita Smith won pace in a contest for beece and was awarded by Colbys Firem Store of Silver City. The camp hosted 78 girls including 11 new entrants.

Origins of Father’s Day Observance Spreads Nationwide

An early Spokane suggestion by Mrs. John Bruce Dodd led to a June Father’s Day. By 1915 the observance gained national prominence when a national figure advocated recognizing fathers with a formal day.

Translator Association Seeks Lordsburg TV Translators

The TV Translator Association met June 7 at City Hall to assess public interest in translators for Lordsburg. Members urge donations by July 1 to avoid disbanding, which would delay local TV improvements. Public funds through bonds depend on voter approval and council study.

Hidalgo County Ladies Attend Homemakers College

Four Hidalgo County women attended the Homemakers College at New Mexico A&M last week. Attendees included Mrs. Darrell Brooks Mrs. Sam Johns Mrs. Loyd Reed and Mrs. Eva M. Thomas Hidalgo County home demonstration agent. The event featured sessions on parliamentary procedure foods nutrition water rights clothing and meeting participation. Two hundred attended the state meeting of the New Mexico Women's Extension Club with delegates from Hidalgo County serving on committees and reporting on audits and governance.

Little League Enters Second Week With Strong Fan Support

The Little League enters its second week as crowds and financial backing far exceed expectations. Eight teams show balance and frequent breaks affect wins and losses. CPS leads Ramirez Radio Service 11-1 in a lopsided game while Harvell and Powell rally to beat Kimbley 6-5.

COC To Hold Two Training Sessions

Lordsburg Ground Observer Corps announces two training sessions at City Hall next Monday evening June 17. Sessions run 6 to 7 30 p m and 7 30 to 9 p m with a film by the Air Force and open discussion. Only trained observers will qualify to stand watches. Dedication of the post is hoped for around July 1.
