Students from New Mexico participate in Girls State and Boys State programs to learn American citizenship. Delegates travel to Albuquerque for the events and engage in non partisan activities emphasizing civil duties, rights, and responsibilities through practical civic exercises.
The New Mexico Cattle Growers Association plans a two day meeting in Truth or Consequences with June 25 and 26 set aside for committee sessions. President Sherwood Culberson and Executive Secretary Horace Henning discussed final plans with local cattlemen and noted the Hereford Association will meet the night of June 25.

In the later game Wanees Guard edged Hatch 8 to 7 in a seesaw affair that ended with the last out. Hatch led 4 1 2 1 and National Guard answered with 0 2 4 2 1.
Firemen from across New Mexico gathered for the 30th New Mexico Fireman's Association Convention in Truth or Consequences. Bobby Clark, son of local residents, was made an honorary member of the fire department by Fire Chief Harold Bishop and Captain Victor Reay, as hospital visits featured a trio of fire trucks. Bobby has been recovering and is now out of the iron lung.
The Hidalgo County Fairgrounds hosts the Third Annual Kids Rodeo Saturday evening starting at 8:00. Sponsored by the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Posse and Fair Board, arena director Garland Johnson of Animas leads events open to children under seventeen with parental consent. Calf roping, riding, barrel racing, team tying and double mugging feature trophies.
Seven band students from the high school leave Monday for the University of Arizona Tucson to attend a two week Fine Arts Summer Program. The course covers music and art with a closing program on Saturday June 19 from 2:00 PM to 9:30 PM showcasing progress and work.
Lordsburg drycleaners Zia Cleaners and Fashion Cleaners were asked to join a nationwide drive to clean American flags at no charge in exchange for displaying the colors on Flag Day June 14. The appeal came from Post Commander Robert Williams on behalf of A. O. Thalacker president of Detrex Corp Detroit.
