Banner Miners and Guards Split Softball Battles

In a Friday doubleheader the Banner Miners defeated CPS 5 to 0 behind Alvarez who allowed three hits and one baserunner to third. Lopez yielded six hits and five runs as the Miners posted six hits. In the later game Wanees Guard edged Hatch 8 to 7 in a seesaw affair that ended with the last out. Hatch led 4 1 2 1 and National Guard answered with 0 2 4 2 1.

Firemen Convention Draws Record NM Attendance in Truth or Consequences

Firemen from across New Mexico gathered for the 30th New Mexico Fireman's Association Convention in Truth or Consequences. Bobby Clark, son of local residents, was made an honorary member of the fire department by Fire Chief Harold Bishop and Captain Victor Reay, as hospital visits featured a trio of fire trucks. Bobby has been recovering and is now out of the iron lung.

Kids Rodeo Set For Saturday Night

The Hidalgo County Fairgrounds hosts the Third Annual Kids Rodeo Saturday evening starting at 8:00. Sponsored by the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Posse and Fair Board, arena director Garland Johnson of Animas leads events open to children under seventeen with parental consent. Calf roping, riding, barrel racing, team tying and double mugging feature trophies.

Band Students Attend Fine Arts Summer Program

Seven band students from the high school leave Monday for the University of Arizona Tucson to attend a two week Fine Arts Summer Program. The course covers music and art with a closing program on Saturday June 19 from 2:00 PM to 9:30 PM showcasing progress and work.
