Wie Memorial Dedication Observed in Lordsburg

The Wie Memorial dedication on Memorial Day Sunday May 30 at 5 pm on the Courtyard lawn was sponsored by the Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce with the American Legion prominent. The event featured the Lordsburg High Band directed by Charles Crouch, a National Anthem, Star Spangled Banner, welcome by R B Ownby, a quartet, organ accompaniment, talks by O M Jones Vern Payne and Marshall Fuller, wreath laying by George P Jeffus, a firing salute, a dedication prayer by Rev Paul Hively and taps by Crouch Heather and Alvarez.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2099 in Lordsburg New Mexico is sponsoring a bound historical service record book for Hidalgo County World War I and II veterans with photos and data. Veterans are asked to send a uniform photo and completed questionnaire from page fourteen, with submissions to Post 2099. Gold Star servicemen will be placed at the front. county landmark photos are also requested.

Marston Reed of the Veterans Administration will visit Fort Bayard and travel to Lordsburg on Wednesday June 9. Veterans may meet him at the Hidalgo Hotel lobby from 10 30 a m to 2 30 p m. Local Lions Host Ladies Night Banquet at Hotel Hidalgo

The Local Lions entertained about 400 guests Friday evening at a patio banquet in Hotel Hidalgo. Attendee HH Vearle Payne presided as Master of Ceremonies with Judge Gale. The program featured Thelma Williams, Lester Gale, a trumpet solo by Charles Crouch, vocal numbers by Thelma Rowe and Herman Leistikow, and a string quartet. A short film by Mountain States Telephone Co titled Behind the Scenes of the Telephone Hour closed the event.

The league organizes Powell's Plumbers vs Tigers and Banner Mine vs Moctezuma for a June 4 opener at 6 p m. Robert Akuns manages the Tigers. East gate entry costs 10 cents, children under twelve 5 cents, under six free. proceeds fund lights and balls.
