Lordsburg emerges as a potential major oil field as geologists and top drillers express strong interest. Blaine White of Los Angeles endorses the field, and F A Black Drilling Company plans to spud within ten to twelve miles north of Lordsburg pending government approval.

Budget Commission Sets Low Yearly School Budget

Educational Budget Auditor RH Grisson with J A McNabb Jr and Hidalgo County School Budget Commissioners J Rh Ownby and G L Ross met June 1–2 to finance next year’s schools. Budget is below last year with funds for an extra teacher at Lordsburg Valedon and Virden, and taxes reduced for this purpose.

Town Council Votes to Aid Law Enforcement

At the regular council meeting a resolution was passed directing City Marshal C. A. Conner to cooperate with Sheriff Jones in strict enforcement. Officers were instructed to curb peddling, following reports of a group here last week taking orders for many items.

Womans Club Plans Quiet Summer Break and Events

At a regular meeting members voted to pause business meetings until September. On June 22 at Mrs. St Bownbys home an Indian program open to the public will be presented. Mrs Dawes of Arizona spoke on forming a WeCTU and a Christian church gathering is set for Monday at 3 PM to organize it. All ladies invited.

Woman's Club Plans for Child Welfare Youth Activities

The Child Welfare Department of The Woman's Club of Lordsburg invites all children to a summer story time led by Mrs. Lyday at the Library each Wednesday at ten. Bluebirds meet Thursday at Ruby Peak's home, with Margaret Green in charge. A Kindergarten class for little tots meets Thursday at ten at the Methodist Church under Viola Thomas, plus Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls under development. Tennis courts will be equipped for the kids soon.

Legion Endowment Over Subscribed in One Hour

Lordsburg and Valedon ex service and business men quickly raised the $150 endowment for Hidalgo county and added $25,000 more to cover shortfalls. Major Dickson led with a $25 contribution as others joined, creating a permanent fund for defenders and dependents with interest used as needed.

Bear Cats Dominate Duncan In One-Sided Base Run

The Bear Cats overwhelmed Duncan in a Sunday game scoring fifteen runs while limiting the visitors to a single circuit. Next Sunday they travel to Silver City with Hed McMeans pitching and Allison catching, hoping to return with a big score.

Decoration Day Observed at Star Theatre With Ceremonies

A small crowd gathered at the Star Theatre on Saturday for a brief Decoration Day program honoring fallen soldiers. Major M M Grocker led the event with prayers and speeches by T A Phillips and Rev G V Williams. Music flowed from the audience led by Harry Rose, with Mrs Bethel Vernon Fuller at the piano, and later groups visited the cemetery to decorate graves. five of six ex-servicemen were from Valedon.

Texas Prospector Strikes Rich Ore Near Hachita

Todd McKinney a Sierra Blanca native now mining in southern New Mexico has found a mine 13 miles from Machita NM on a vein carrying silver and lead. The 16 inch vein assays at 17 percent lead and 54 ounces silver per ton worth $31 to $35 per ton. Two shafts 200 feet apart at 10 and 30 feet deep. He plans to ship a carload to the El Paso smelter soon.

Miss Mildred Glayton wed Prof. W B Summers Jr in a private Paso del Norte hotel ceremony on March 14 1925 with only the bride's parents as witnesses. The couple honeymoon in Boulder Colorado where both pursue further studies. She chairs the local Woman's Club music department and he leads a top school band and teaches chemistry.
