Lordsburg police report two minor accidents involving youths during the first weekend of summer vacation. No serious injuries noted as authorities remind drivers to use caution with school out and more pedestrians on the roads.
Dr. Wolfgang Elston of UNM notes rocks in southern Hidalgo County resemble Permian Basin oil rocks, prompting renewed drilling and geothermal work. University researchers Thompson and Elston lead a $51,250 NM Resources Board grant to study volcanic formations and basin data amid high industry risk and scattered exploration.
Teddy Salinas 18 of 401 E Center St Lordsburg is jailed in Hidalgo County on 30 000 bond after a May 27 stabbing at the same address. He faces two counts aggravated battery and one aggravated assault on an officer for attacking brothers Ronnie Salinas 18 and Eddie Aguilera 18. Both victims underwent surgery at Hillcrest Hospital in Silver City. Aguilera remains hospitalized. Police say the case remains under investigation.
Mayor Ted White announced the creation of a city public relations coordinator post and said councilman John Schimmel would be the prospective appointee. The position would pay about 900 dollars a month and requires council confirmation.
An open June meeting in Lordsburg with Hidalgo County business leaders and ONC Hopper Freight Lines officials promised improved freight service. ONC would consider a Lordsburg terminal with three weekly trucks starting to Silver City shipments, plus toll free freight information, aiming for a local terminal soon.
Lordsburg High School held a graduation for 67 seniors on Friday May 27. The event featured processional Invoca tion by Rev W L Sanders welcome remarks by Principal Phil DeFoor valedictorian Cindy Johnson salutatorian Donelle Stewart guest speaker Bill Bruner of New Mexico State University scholarships presented to named seniors and diploma conferrals by school board members The class song Times Of Our Lives concluded the ceremony followed by a post ceremony ogee at St Josephs Catholic Church.
