Zoning Measure Advances In Lordsburg Council Action

Lordsburg City Council unanimously adopted a comprehensive zoning ordinance with five zones RA RB C I and A outlining residential commercial and industrial rules set to take full effect October 1 1982. The ordinance will be available for examination and residents may challenge zoned property until then. The Farmers Market begins Saturday July 31 at 8 am.

Irick Brings Campaign To Lordsburg

Republican governor hopeful John Irick visited Lordsburg on Wednesday July 21 for a second time in five months. He outlined a plan to attract all Republicans and mobilize Democrats and independents, warning the general election differs from the primary and noting appointed offices and committees to aid his campaign as he pressed toward Deming, Truth or Consequences and Albuquerque.

Bank Donates 1000 To Western New Mexico University Foundation

July 23 1982 First National Bank of Lordsburg presents a $1000 check to Western New Mexico University President Dr Robert Glennen and Foundation chair Roy Swari. The gift funds scholarships and future endowment goals as the foundation reports a June 30 1982 balance of $27000. A Lordsburg High School reunion planning meeting is set for August 5 at 7 pm at the Civic Center. the reunion date is September 25 for classes of the 1920s 30s and 40s.

High School Gymnasium Vandalized

Unknown persons broke into a high school gym on July 21 and vandalized the girls and boys locker rooms and Jerry Reyes’s office. Three doors and eight cabinet doors were damaged. Equipment and medical supplies were stolen, with at least 750 dollars in losses reported. The case remains under investigation.

Lordsburg Board Of Education Meeting Notice

A regular Lordsburg Municipal Board of Education meeting is set for August 3 at 7 p m in the board room at 501 W Fourth Street Lordsburg. Absentee ballots for the August 31 special legislative primary election are available at Hidalgo County Clerk and may be cast through August 26.

City plans to restore water pressure and address mineral deposits

City officials detail the mineral issue tied to new east end wells and outline steps to reconnect the old C well and Jim Wells well if safe. They also discuss finding a south side supply and boosting main pressures to locate and repair leaks, noting low pressure will reveal leaks in meters, lines, and home plumbing.
