Skeen Visits Hidalgo County for Luncheon and Tours

Congressman Joe Skeen spent Friday in Hidalgo County starting with a luncheon for city and county officials at the American Restaurant. He fielded questions on aliens and border aircraft, rancher Brook Stillman’s rangeland queries, and appeared with Bill Cobb. He toured Hidalgo Smelter, Westar Gold Mine, visited Shakespeare ghost town, then a Republican fund raiser at El Charro. Mac McPherson organized the visit.

St Joseph Bazaar Set For Aug 6 and 7

The annual St Joseph s Bazaar is planned for Short Park on Saturday and Sunday August 6 and 7. It includes game booths and food with barbecue on Saturday and Mexican dishes on Sunday. The coronation dance runs at Elks Hall Saturday 9 00 PM to 1 00 AM and a tardeada is set for Sunday 7 00 to 10 00 PM.

Residents and city officials met in Pyramid Village to address vandalism noise and yard upkeep. Officials explained patrols, HUD officer search, possible phone booths for complaints, confidential reporting, and speed-control measures. A bimonthly meeting cadence was agreed.

Summer Band Instruction Available at Lordsburg School System

The Lordsburg School System offers summer band instruction. On Monday August 1, sixth to eighth graders and new instrument seekers meet at DTMS between 1 and 3 p.m. Older students may join. Regular classes begin Tuesday August 2 with grade-specific meeting times. High school band newcomers report August 9 at 7 p.m. in the high school band room.
