Lopez named Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber director in 1991
Joanna Lopez becomes manager of the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce chosen by the Board from several applicants. Since May she organized a welcome home for Persian Gulf troops and a veterans program, led the Third Annual Railroad Days, and plans a Fourth of July edition to energize the event. She coordinates the Hidalgo County Fair Parade for August 23 and works on dues and new member recruitment. Lopez is Western New Mexico University graduate with a 3.9 GPA, residing in Lordsburg eight years, and has worked as camp counselor, school instructor, hospital lab aide, nursing home activities director, and ambulance service certified medical technician. She and husband Louie have four sons.

The Shady Grove Economic Development Fund at Western Bank totals 85327.48 dollars and Home Federal Savings holds 6854.80 dollars in Deming. In 1984 Lordsburg city and Shady Grove Motel formed a UDAG backed loan for a 281000 dollar motel at Roadforks with a 25 year term. Funds, intended for local economic development, remain unused due to lending gaps per City Clerk Irene Galvan.

Volunteers worked Saturday at Steins Cemetery placing a chain link fence. They weeded, picked up trash, and held a noon potluck lunch. Funds for materials came from state and county,共. A second work day is planned for August 3.

Summer Band Classes Begin August 5
Lordsburg School System announces summer band instruction with grade based start times. Sixth graders at 2 00 p.m and seventh eighth graders at 3 00 p.m. Fifth graders and others may visit DTMS on Friday August 2 between 1 00 p.m. and 3 00 p.m. for instrument access. Ballinger Wins First Round in Habeas Review
Gene Ballinger apparently gains a favorable initial ruling in his 1981 murder case. U. S. Magistrate Judge Sumner G.
