Baca Named Superintendent for Lordsburg School District
Ruben Paul Baca of El Paso Texas is named Lordsburg School System Superintendent by the Lordsburg Board of Education at a July meeting. Baca 40, born in Roswell NM, educated at UNM UTEP and Midwest Business College. previously assistant principal in El Paso Public Schools with prior teaching in El Paso Las Cruces and Artesia districts. The vote followed discussion after outgoing superintendent Dr James L Latham cited health reasons and urged thorough exploration of options before choosing a successor.

Robertson Steps Down As Postmaster
Lordsburg Postmaster John Robertson announces retirement effective July 18 after 25 years in Lordsburg and five years as a private bookkeeper. His successor, Robert Borrego, will serve as Officer In Charge until a permanent replacement is named, Borrego having joined the USPS in 1956 and most recently served as Post Master in Central New Mexico.

Hidalgo County moves to establish two schools for handicapped children in Lordsburg and Animas funded by county revenue sharing and matched with federal funds via the Southwestern School for the Handicapped in Ft Bayard NM. An association of local citizens is needed to access the funds and open a year round five day a week school, with a meeting at the American Legion Hall on July 29 at 7 PM for those interested in organizing.
