Mrs Mildred Blankenship of Redwood City California writes to the mayor praising Lieutenant Claude Lytle for issuing a speeding ticket on her trip from Lordsburg to California He is commended for courtesy respect and adherence to speed laws noting he made her journey safer.
Supt. Wesley Freeburg lists houses available to staff awaiting duty. Call 542-9361 to secure housing for watchers ready to report for duty.
Marjane Ryals daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Ryals was chosen Miss Imperial 400 of Lordsburg at a bathing beauty contest. First runnerup was Sandy Dunkerson with title Bonnie Mermaid, second runnerup Barbara Woody. Wally Blake hosted and crowned Ryals who earns an all expense paid trip to Hollywood with escort. She is a Santa Fe High School and University of Arizona student active in Gamma Phi Beta Spurs and National Honor Society.

Postmaster General J Edward Day announced plans to build a new Lordsburg post office as part of President Kennedy’s program to modernize postal facilities. The 3,000 square foot interior and 6,200 square foot parking area will be leased to the department under a private investment model with bids and site transfer to the winning bidder.
Fikes Lodge No. 1819 relocates from Second and Shakespeare to a new clubhouse on the Deming highway east of town. Some fixtures remain and finishing work is pending, but the club is open at night and activities at the old site have ended. Grand opening is planned for early September per Roddy Poindexter.

The State of New Mexico sues Jack Adams road constructor for 564,826 alleging failure to meet Lordsburg urban project specifications from 1957 58. The suit, filed in Santa Fe County Court shortly after confirmation, names The Indemnity Insurance Company of North America for insufficient protection and cites department estimates used in federal contract planning.
Lordsburg summer baseball races tighten with one week left in the regular schedule. Banner Mine Enco Service and Art's Garage finish the season Friday night July 28, as rainouts and two ties complicate the pennant chase and the round robins for Little League and Pony League remain to be played.
Aguilar's Grocery club exploded for 13 hits and a 15-6 win over the Elks in three innings before time expired. Morales homered with a man aboard in the fourth as Contreras and Mesa pitched for Elks but could not slow the Grocerymen. Elks led 6-0, then were held scoreless by Saunders and Ro sales. Aguilar faces Banner Mine Friday night.
