Major Water Leak Repaired by City Workers

City water main break early Sunday required nine workers plus the mayor and three councilors to repair over nine hours. City officials urged conservation as Lordsburg managed with about 1.3 million gallons daily and explored an extra water site while Wells Two and SP remain the sole active sources.

Playas road exchange noted by Hidalgo County officials

Hidalgo County Commissioners received a letter from the New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department reporting Hidalgo relinquished the Playas road, NM 113, effective July 1, 1992. The county seeks paving for the north five miles and approves $62,000 state and $22,000 county funds for El Sol Estates and Burgetts road improvements. A bid for 25 000 tons of leased course gravel was requested by County Road Superintendent Jake McCarty.

U L Lesley 70, Lordsburg resident, died July 8 at Memorial Medical Center Las Cruces. Visitation at Baca's Funeral Chapel Deming and at First Baptist Church Lordsburg. funeral held 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Interment Mountain View Cemetery. Survived by wife Lyne, three daughters, a brother, two sisters, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Pallbearers listed. Baca's Funeral Chapels in charge.

Paving Project Bids Set For August Start

Lordsburg council officials announce bids to be advertised for a street paving project in early August. Phase one covers North, Hardin, Cholla and Maple Streets with work expected to begin August 24 1992 and finish by February 20 1993. State Police Patrol Saturation Planned on I 10

The New Mexico State Police will conduct a Patrol Saturation Project on Interstate 10 on July 16 and July 18. Patrolman J L Whatley says the effort aims to reduce speed related crashes and raise awareness of driving responsibility through enforcement and media attention. Speed and other violations will be targeted and motorists urged to obey traffic laws and buckle up for safety.

Hidalgo County Approves 1992 93 Deficit Budget Plan

Hidalgo County Commission approves a general fund of 1 838 107 for 1992 93 up 218 361 from last year and 126 382 over anticipated revenues. Cuts target non essential services to cover costs for solid waste compliance and federal prisoner housing while urging reports on legally required services.

Cleofas Jimenez Services Held in Lordsburg

Cleofas Vasquez Jimenez 62 of Lordsburg died Friday July 10 at the V A Hospital in Tucson Arizona. Visitation and vigil were at St Josephs Catholic Church with the funeral liturgy at the same church. Interment followed at Shakespeare Cemetery. He was born April 9 1930 in Waledon NM and worked as a service station attendant. A World War I Army veteran, he was a lifelong Lordsburg resident and member of St Josephs Church. Survived by brother Jerardo Jimenez and four sisters with many nieces nephews and cousins. Pallbearers were Matthew Talavera Adam Contreras Ray Contreras Juan Verdugo I Jr Paul Diaz and David Diaz. honorary bearers John Levario and Juan Verdugo.
