Governor Carruthers arrives in Lordsburg with a delegation of state officials and local leaders to survey projects and discuss regional priorities. The visit includes meetings at city hall and a review of infrastructure plans with municipal authorities.
Gov Garvey Carruthers and cabinet members will visit Lordsburg on Tuesday July 21 for Government Day. The group includes Nick Jenkins Lou Gallegos Larry Gordon Paul Garcia Tom Bahr Bill Stephens Tom Bacca and Dewey Lonsberry. They will tour meet local governments breakfast and lunch with residents and answer questions.
Two Deming men, John Patrick Daniell and Robert A. Garcia, were arrested on burglary and embezzlement charges for stealing fuel from the Road Forks terminal of International Fuel Corporation. Investigating officer Billy Daniell reported the theft occurred June 19 using unauthorized credit cards to gain entry.
The County Commissioners quickly managed the July regular meeting. They instructed County Manager Tommy Anderson to solicit bids for a new ambulance and for a 30 by 40 foot metal building as well as bids for a used water tanker. Bids for a padfoot roller were delayed until Road.
Lordsburg police investigated a bar stabbing between 1:00 and 1:30 AM Saturday. Two men were taken to Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver, while a third man faces two counts of aggravated battery. The newly formed force has answered 66 calls covering burglaries, disturbances, theft, and other incidents. Maria Esquivel, 86, longtime Lordsburg resident, died in El Paso after a service and funeral schedule was announced for Saint Joseph's Church and Shakespeare Cemetery.
A new session starts Tuesday July 21 at 10:30 a.m. for two weeks with classes Tuesday through Saturday, each 30 minutes long. Cost is $10, sign ups and information via Fred LaMarca at the pool, 542-3774.
