Dr C R Pearson has joined Dr BE De Moss’s medical staff in Lordsburg. He recently completed a three year general surgery residency at Wisconsin General Hospital Madison and graduated from University Medical School in 1929. He interned at Kansas City General Hospital for two years and spent five years with the University of Wisconsin Infirmary and Student Clinic. Mrs Pearson will relocate once a permanent home is found.

Lordsburg Trustees enact 10 percent water rate cut

A recessed Lordsburg Board meeting approved Ordinance No 105 cutting water rates by 10 percent to spur lawn and garden use. Mayor Short praised the plan while WPA funded street and water system projects loom. A committee will survey nuisances from outdoor toilets and cow sheds and report next meeting.

Settlement on Burro Mountain Peak for Smithsonian

Director Alfred F. Moore plans two five room dwellings an associate ey laboratory and office building a four car garage and a snow plow garage on the south peak of the Burro mountains northeast of Lordsburg. Contractor Jack Heather of Lordsburg says the frame rustic buildings will have native rock fireplaces and aim for autumn completion. Moore and wife engage with the project as a mountain retreat and solar radiation observatory hopes to rival world facilities as interest grows since his LordsburgApril visit. Petrified Forest Spotlight Shines on Lordsburg Attraction

Hidalgo County officials J. H. Mc Leod and Dr C T Kibbe visited Lordsburgs petrified forest locating it 12 miles south and five miles east of town. They urge designation as a national monument with about 400 acres and plan a graded highway to improve access for year round tourism.

Virden mayor Joseph Moffett spent two days in Lordsburg with the State Budget Committee representing the State Tax Commission. He says a municipal tax would take funds from the school, so at present nothing more is to be done.

Gas Pumps Inspected Throughout Hidalgo County

P. E. Culver, director of the Gasoline Tax Division, and a seven man crew have been in Hidalgo county for days checking gasoline pumps for measurement accuracy. The team includes W. R. Arrest of Arizona fugitive in Lordsburg by Sheriff Cavin

Sheriff John Cavin arrested Harry Molin, a wanted Arizona fugitive, in Lordsburg after the suspect tried to flee a gas stop in a LaFayette coupe. Molin, sought for cashing a $1,500 check and swindling across Arizona, was taken to Arizona after a brief pursuit and later returned to Phoenix authorities.

Virden WPA Project Application Signed for 145 096

On July 11 an application for a Works Progress Administration project for Virden was signed and sent in for 145 096 dollars. Twenty percent of the amount is to be provided by Virden residents with the rest from the government. The plan covers paving and graveling streets and sidewalks, cement culverts over ditches, and planting shade trees.

Red Cross Field Representative Advances First Aid Training

Minx Charlotte Murry of the Red Cross visited Hidalgo County to coordinate first aid training with the Red Cross contingent. New Mexico State Police recently completed a firet aid course to become instructors for Port of Entry staff, with Lordsburg to train local officers. The Hidalgo County Red Cross will provide manuals and kits, turning each Port of Entry into a first aid station for highway incidents. Dr. Mitchell lectures WPA foremen in Silver City, and New Mexico text books will rank alongside statewide programs.

Dixie Drive In Opens Near Lordsburg With 14 Dishes

Henry Ellison launches a new Dixie Drive In at the McNutt Oil settlement east of Lordsburg serving 14 items including barbeque meats roasted 16 hours. The menu features frozen fudge sundae andsoft drinks with 12 swinging chairs at the counter.
