Sunday Fire Destroys Two Buildings in Lordsburg Block

A Sunday night blaze gutted the Union Cafe and Lordsburg Bakery shops, with insurance absent for the cafe owners. Firefighters battled strong winds, saved nearby shops and a hotel, and plan rebuilding with brick to reduce fire risk as owners consider new premises.

Arizona Boosters Visit Lordsburg on Oil Paving Plan

Five top Arizona boosters visited Lordsburg on Tuesday night including Al Condron Arlie Gardner Bob Hamilton Geo London and A N Zellmer. They met Nat Gammon at the Hotel Hidalgo and viewed the oil paved highway east of town then endorsed the New Mexico highway system as 100 percent good.

Brown Buys Interest in Borderland Garage

Fort T. Brown has purchased the Borderland Garage from Mortis Trimble and taken charge with sidy W. G. Heewell who has worked with Trimble. Brown recently sold his barber shop and enters the garage and service station business with a well located established operation. Trembin has made no future plans.

Long Beach Earthquake Injures Six and Shakes City

An earthquake struck near Los Angeles on Monday injuring four persons and two children from Santa Fe Springs. Breakage of plate glass and chimney damage were reported along with a city hall tower swaying about 12 inches. A washing machine toppled in Santa Fe Springs injuring two children, while several houses suffered damage from falling debris. Reverend John Rice traveled to Flano then to visit relatives in Alabama.

Murder charges in dry killing to be pressed

District Attorney WL RL Walton announced plans to file murder charges against Prohibition Agent W. J. Till and Deputy Sheriff Tom McSherry for the fatal shooting of J. Thompson on June 11. Walton said the action will not be a friendly gesture and that he will proceed in district court after waivers of preliminary hearing.

Air Classic of the Century lands in Lordsburg

Miss Marvel Croosen the world altitude record holder visits Lordsburg as a control point for the Air Classic of the Century. Lightning Strikes Mrs Clyne at Diamond A Ranch

Word reached the Liberal office after the last edition. Mrs Clyne wife of L B Clyne manager of the Diamond A ranch was struck by lightning near her home on June 20 she was stunned and slightly burned but not seriously hurt. Mr Clyne nearby prevented a worse outcome.

Former Hidalgo County Superintendent Ines Wright Dies

Mise Ines Wright died at her family home in Lordsburg after a brief illness following surgery. The longtime educator and first regular Hidalgo County Superintendent of Public Instruction is mourned by family, church, and civic groups. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Lordsburg Baptist Church, with interment in the Lordsburg Cemetery, as friends from near and far paid tribute to her lifelong service.
