Burned Worker Suffered Gasoline Fire Injury

Leo Griego an employee at a Service Station on An Ave and Railroad Ave was burned Tuesday when gasoline nearby ignited. An ambulance was summoned and transported him to Hidalgo County where his condition was reported satisfactory. The department was notified but the fire had been largely extinguished by the time responders arrived.

Lordsoura Ground Observer Corps Tower Dedication

Lordsburg hosts a Monday night dedication of the new Ground Observer Corps tower on city property at Main and Railroad. The program featured remarks by Richard B. Rice, prayers by Rev. Hidalgo County Tops Cotton Yield in New Mexico 1956

Hidalgo County posted the highest cotton yield per harvested acre in 1956 at 1 089 pounds per acre per the Agricultural Marketing Service. Lina was second with 985 and Eddy third with 953. Other counties followed: Chaves 693, Otero 857, Sierra 803, Lea 762, Dona Ana 750, Socorro 684, Grant 683, DeBaca 609, Quay 469, Guadalupe 450, Curry 413, Roosevelt 408.
