Next Tuesday voters in Lordsburg will elect two members to the Municipal School Board for a six year term. On the ballot are Frank Bowman Harber Heather Alan A Koff Manuel Ramirez and Warren White. Heather and Bowman run as a team while Ramirez runs independently. The polling place is City Hall auditorium. The other seat has been held by Peter M Chase.
Mrs. Albert Smith was honored with a nursery shower on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Andy Smith. Guests decorated plates with baby motifs and gifts were placed in a bassinet. attendees included Mrs. John Peters, Mrs. Seldon Stevens, Mrs. Joan Smith, Mrs. Mae Smith, Mrs. Clifford Romine, Mrs. Bazie Millican, Mrs. Gene Wait, Mrs. Nellie White, Mrs. Joe Beving, and Mrs. Ruby Price.

The Community Charities elected Raymond Smith as president with Sam Gass as vice president and J. D. Atkinson as treasurer in a Tuesday meeting held at Mrs. Elmer Jeanes home. Mrs. Jeanes was re elected secretary as the group reported monthly aid to needy transients and active winter efforts with churches and organizations contributing including St Josephs Catholic, First Baptist, First Methodist, Salvation Army, American Legion Auxiliary, and others.
A joint installation of Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters was held at KP Hall. Officers for the Pythian Sisters were installed by Mary Frances Rice, with Winnie Kuykendall as MEC and Mary Frances Rice as installing officer. Pyramid Lodge officers were also installed by Grand Chancellor Frank Bowman. Refreshments followed in the recreation room.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce banquet scheduled for February 26 is postponed to March 6 due to conflicting dates. The American Legion Auxiliary will serve at the Legion Hall. Tickets go on sale soon.
Three men robbed Don Pare at the Phillips 66 station on East Railroad Ave at 2 35 am Tuesday securing 109 70. Police, sheriff and Border Patrol found them dividing the money with Charles Krecex 18 San Pedro CA Earl Phillips 19 Wichita KS and Johnny Banks 23 Wichita KS charged with armed robbery and pleaded guilty at a preliminary hearing.
A Tuesday night blaze at the Ivan Richardson residence injured three family members, including four year old D Chad and Ora Lynn Richardson. Mrs Richardson and their baby were later admitted for smoke inhalation complications. The north half of the house was gutted, with the kitchen area destroyed, and Richardsons suffered burns from embers. Firemen battled the flames then returned for a flare up about half an hour after initial containment.
A 4-H Club for first year baking will be organized this spring in Lordsburg. Children must be 10 before Oct. 1, 1959 with parental cooperation. Members bake cookies biscuits waffles muffins cornbread and ginger bread and keep home records. Mrs. Eva Thomas will discuss the project. time and place to be announced.
James Smirky Greer longtime Liberal employee and Lordsburg Volunteer Fire Department member was confined to Hidalgo County Hospital Thursday morning with a serious condition.
Senator R H Wamel and Representative Jack Morgan of Hidalgo County will provide copies of all House and Senate bills introduced this session at Judge H Vearle Payne County Clerk John Robertson County Agent Ed Hitson Chamber of Commerce School Superintendent Wesley Freeburg and the Lordsburg Liberal office. Constituents may request specific bills and are welcome to write to the Senate or House addresses in Santa Fe.
Lordsburg junior police members were given their commissions last Saturday in a Central School gymnasium meeting. State Game and Fish Officers Virgil Jones and John Schuel showed a movie for the group. The next meeting is set for Saturday February 7 at the school grounds.
