A baby girl named Demaria Anne Werrett was born Sunday at 1 am to Mr and Mrs J Werrett of San Simon. The mother and baby are doing nicely. The article notes medical care and a few local hospital updates.
The Mavericks report a quiet start to the second semester with few changes, a handful of transfers and dropouts, and several grade cards issued. Four students left the high school, while new student librarians Florence Cureton and Ruth Wallace fill vacancies and several new books are added to the library. The team beat Hatch 32 to 21 before losing to the Aggie Freshmen 35 to 11, with top scorers listed and plans for upcoming games and awards.
The semester examinations are completed and papers graded. Some students express disappointment as new enrollments rise in civics and physiology, the only two new subjects this term.
A parade of visits fills Lordsburg as Miss Qussi Kincheloe arrives from San Diego to see her sister Mrs Ola McCluskey. S K Gass of Ysleta, Texas, visits Lordsburg for several days this week. Miss Gertrude Wright of Animas visits her sister Mrs Eva Marshall. Tina Pairly and Winnifred Lahenn spend the weekend with the Adams family. Mr and Mrs Nat Gammon have been in El Paso. The annual First National Bank stockholders meeting was held last Tuesday. Sidney Corbell installs a new cleaning machine. Mrs Charles Conner and children visited Willcox, Arizona. Bob Hal and family expected home from Texas where Mrs Hall was with her grandmother. James T Wells visited from Cannanea to spend the weekend. L C Krauer transacting business here. returns to Los Angeles Friday. Sam Cole injured at Fowhorn Pacific roundhouse, fractures and other injuries. Baptist W M W met at Meo Preak Corbell’s. refreshments served. Next meeting at Mrs Gam Oaas’s home. Judge Hay’s two-week visit canceled due to flu. Knights of Pythias social night with refreshments. Dusty Waller and wife and Mr and Mrs Harry Mitchell back from Broadway of America tour. Deming crowd includes Rev J R Puller and others. The on the ground team led by a state highway commission project engineer and four aides prepares to begin work on a federal aid highway west of Lordsburg. Crosvenor joins from the federal bureau and moves his family to Lordsburg for the schooling of the children.

The Lordsburg Lions hosted a basketball event with the Lordsburg Mavericks led by Captain Marshal Fuller and Frank Stengele. They defeated Deming Troop EF 38 to 33 as Coach Ehrhardt introduced the team. Lions welcomed a burro polo team invitation for the St Louis convention.
Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis visits Lordsburg with Mrs. Landis and Mrs. Stevenson, greeted by locals as a premier baseball figure. The group tours, praises area hotels and water, with Landis joking about car risk and plans to rest in Chandler for about a week.
Campbell Bakery by Alex J. Campbell and son William P. Campbell will open in the old Lordsburg building. The Phoenix operation will supply equipment and staff for a three person bake shop with a retail clerk, opening February 4 with a Saturday formal and prizes.
Sheriff Conner and Chief Deputy Carl Morris acted on information from Safford on Monday that a car stolen likely headed from Lordsburg tied to a recent murder case. Officers located the vehicle near the cemetery in under fifteen minutes. occupants had fled.
Mr and Mrs Pred Von Rodeck and their children have returned from an extended master tour along the Pacific coast.
The new county board of education, appointed by Judge George W. Hay, is fully organized with P. J. Fairly reelected president, B. M. Reynolds vice president, and Katy Hall county superintendent ex officio secretary. Other members include Rev. 5S. A. Lay of Rodeo and Robert Mortensen of Virden.
A Lordsburg hospital report notes all members of Peter Kiewit and family recovering after a car crash near Lordsburg. Mrs Kiewit survived serious injuries, Jean Kiewit suffered head and wrist injuries, while Peter Jr and Cecelia were scratched. Ralph W. Kiewit visited and praised care.
