Lordsburg Christian Home Feeds Hundreds

Lordsburg's Christian Home provided meals to transients during November and December, totaling 1,076 and 841 respectively. Since May 1990, the facility served 4,467 meals to men, women, and children and furnished lodging for 1,803 transients. Showers reached 1,877, 148 gasoline requests were met, and 217 lunches were packed.

Longtime Lordsburg Resident dies at 70

Howard William Phillips 70 of Lordsburg died Friday January 18 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming. A memorial service was held Tuesday January 22 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Brewer officiating. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

Eloisa Ayon Guerrero 84 of Las Cruces died January 17 at Memorial Medical Center. Visitation Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. at Bacas Heather Funeral Chapel. prayer vigil Sunday night. Funeral liturgy Monday 9 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church. interment Shakespeare Cemetery. Survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 22 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren. Pallbearers and honoraries listed. Her life centered in Las Cruces where she was a homemaker and parishioner.

Mary Chavez 59 a Lordsburg resident died Sunday January 20 at University Medical Center in Tucson Arizona Visitation was Tuesday evening at 6 30 at St Josephs Catholic Church and the prayer virgil was there that evening at 7 00 The funeral liturgy was Wednesday morning at 10 00 at St Josephs Catholic Church with Fr Virgilio Sanchez officiating Interment followed at Shakespeare Cemetery She was born March 4 1931 in Los Angeles California and was a homemaker She was a resident of Lordsburg for 1 year and a resident of Bayard for 24 years She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard and St Josephs Catholic Church in Lordsburg. She is survived by her husband Benjamin Chavez of the home 4 sons Ruben Edward Fernando and David all of Lordsburg 2 daughters Martha Chavez and Lucinda Chavez both of Lordsburg 3 sisters Joesphine Newell Nellie Sitler both of San Jose California Sofie Sanchez Mexico 13 Grandchildren and 1 Great Granddaughter Pallbearers were Edward Chavez Jr Roberto Candelaria Edward Ruiz Rodolfo Chavez Jr Ernesto Ruiz and Juan Ruiz Honorary bearers were Herman Rodriguez Angel Alcaraz Ramon Abitia Johnny Newell Jesus Gonzales and Benito Rodriguez A meet the school board candidates forum for the Animas School District will be held Monday January 28 beginning at 7 00 PM in the Animas School Cultural Building Everyone is welcome

The New Mexico Department of Education issued results from an October 1990 statewide survey by Shoening and Associates assessing student drug and alcohol use. The study covered grades four, seven, nine and twelve across 87 of 88 districts, noting declines in marijuana use versus 1986 and highlighting identification rules for facility access.

Roy Kerr 93 Services Led By Local Clergy Saturday

Roy D Kerr 93 longtime Lordsburg resident and FBI Academy graduate died recently. Services were held Saturday from 12:00 to 2:45 PM at Bacas Heather Funeral Chapels with a 3:00 PM graveside rite at Mountain View Cemetery officiated by Rev. Ron Brewer and the Lordsburg Masonic Lodge. Survivors include son John G Kerr of Gig Harbor Washington daughter Dora Olson of Winslow Arizona ten grandchildren twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Myrtle in 1984.
