Lordsburg Board of Education met in special session on January 17 to decide whether 84 Virden students would attend Lordsburg or remain in Duncan public schools in Arizona. The board voted 3 to 2 to continue sending Virden students to Duncan.
About 75 people attended a Monday night Lordsburg School Board of Education candidates forum sponsored by the Lordsburg Education Association. Panel style moderated by Harvey Hale featured Petra Estrada and Eddie Diaz for position one and Joe Orona and Lance Williams for position two.
The LULACS presented 16 emblems to players coaches and managers of the team that won the district regional state AA championship for two years. The orange five inch emblem honors the squad and a spokesman called the honor well earned and fitting for the champions.
An adoption agency program at Sunshine Rest Haven invites volunteers to give companionship to patients. Coordinator Sandy Smith says a sincere attitude and a week long visit can make a real difference. Contact Mrs. Smith at 542 8142 to be assigned a patient.
A weather front passed just north, bringing light snow to Grant and Catron Counties. Locally expect warmer temperatures this weekend with clear conditions continuing.
Jiggs Reed owner of the Lordsburg Western Auto Store announced the local shop ranked in the top eight percent of 504 Western Auto Stores in the Western Region for 1974. Reed credited community patronage and his employees for the achievement.
