Parents Club To Auction Sale February Announcement

Lordsburg Band Parents held their January 19 meeting at the high school. The band, directed by Roger Brandt, presented a program and announced an upcoming auction sale in February. All items to be donated, with only certain exclusions, and community participation urged. The committee chair is Mrs. Victor Reay.

Welcome Signs Planned by Lordsburg Chamber

The Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce plans four by twelve foot welcome signs at city entrances with materials donated by Bishop and Ritter Lumber Companies and Ace Parnham volunteering time. Russell Smith will chair a yet to be appointed committee.

Books On Exhibit Sponsored by P TA at Hidalgo Library

The P TA sponsors Books On Exhibit a national service event by leading children's publishers. Teachers and librarians may view new library books with no sales. Exhibit runs 9 am to 12 pm and 1 to 5 pm daily January 26 to January 31 at Hidalgo County Public Library.

Lordsburg to Mark 1000th Telephone Installation

In Lordsburg the 1000th telephone will be installed within days as Frank Harenberg of the Mounts Telephone and Tele Co. notes the rapid pace since December. A commemorative plaque will be placed on the milestone instrument, with owner details revealed the day of installation.

Weather Hampers March of Dimes Coffee at Elks Club

Bad weather could not dampen a March of Dimes coffee at the Elks Club Tuesday. Sponsored by the Mother's March with Mrs. Pat Richins as chair, the event raised $37.70 for the fund. Sixteen mothers assisted, and thanks were given to the Elks for the club space and Wright Bakery for doughnut donations.

The March of Dimes fund was swelled Tuesday of last week when Mrs. Seldon Stevens hosted coffees at her home. Ezra Q Payne Dies of Gunshot Wound

Ezra Q Payne died last Sunday morning from a gunshot wound at his home east of Rodeo. A coroner jury ruled the wound probably self inflicted in a personal safety context. Payne had worked as an automobile mechanic in Lordsburg years ago.

Junior Police Membership Sees 167 Boys Apply

Lordsburg hosts a Saturday turnout at City Hall with 167 boys aged eight to 12 applying for junior police membership. City officials, police, clergy, and educators attend, with show tickets and peanuts provided to attendees before adjournment. Next meeting at the school gym will include a bicycle inspection.

Vic Reay, Hidalgo County campaign director, announces the Greater Victories theme for the 1959 March of Dimes. The program targets arthritis, birth defects, virus diseases, and polio, with patient aid for juvenile arthritis and emphasis on medical research and disease fighter training. More than 11 million Americans suffer arthritis, with 320,000 disabled to the point of unemployment.

Mrs. Ann Schroeter of District No. 13 visited Lordsburg on January 13. She delivered a message from the worthy grand matron that was described as interesting and beneficial. Rita Venable summarized the grand matron’s project and local members presented a gift to Mrs. Schroeter.
