Lawmakers and judge urge open juvenile records at Playas meeting

Case Load Explained By Judge

The Lordsburg Municipal Court docket shows 622 cases in 1976 with only one petty larceny filed. Judge Jesus J. Estrada notes lack of felony jurisdiction limits caseload, as the court handles municipal ordinance violations within limits. Seventy-eight other cases include 60 Disorderly Conduct 15 Resisting or Interfering with a police officer 10 Fighting and 5 Assault, plus 102 juveniles cited for traffic violations and one case each for permitting a dog to run loose and carrying a concealed weapon.

Christmas Gift From Mountain Bell Delays Taxes

Hidalgo County telephone customers receive a Christmas gift as federal excise tax on local and long distance service drops from six to five percent. The change, effective New Year’s Day, saves New Mexico customers about $1.2 million in 1977. A Western Auto sale runs this week with a 12 page Liberal insert featuring hundreds of items from recliners to bicycles.

Operation ID to Begin Soon in Lordsburg

Lordsburg Police Chief Rudy Gonzales announced upcoming participation in the statewide Operation ID crime prevention program. The plan includes marking tools, a Neighborhood Watch, crime prevention booklets, and film training packs from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy to aid both department and civic groups.

Funeral Services Held For Bethel Fuller

Funeral services were held January 8 for Mrs Bethel Vernon Fuller of Lordsburg at Heather Chapel with Rev. Gerald White officiating. She was buried at Mountain View Cemetery with the Pythian Sisters assisting. Mrs Fuller, born August 21 1888 in Rockport Texas, moved with her family to Eddy now Carlsbad then Alamogordo. She later settled in Lordsburg 1912 as a theater pianist and married Claude C Fuller in 1913. She was active in civic life, leading the Lordsburg Library and Cemetery associations, and held many offices in the Pythian Sisters and American Legion Auxiliary. She died December 31 1976 in Mountain View California and is survived by two sons Basil and Warren two sisters Mrs William Perry and Mrs Donia Holland and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
