A Richmond source calls New Mexico JP courts a kangaroo system while local items report fire siren overload on calls, late night rescues at Martinez and Ramirez properties, and a plan to add crosswalk signs pending highway department permission.
Roy Lee Maudlin of Anniston Alabama, found injured by the highway near Lordsburg, alleges two sailors in navy uniforms robbed him of $34 and luggage after picking him up on Highway 70. He suffered a broken back from a fall after being struck. An alert had gone out for the suspects with no result by Wednesday noon. Nearby, an Army officer was injured when his car overturned after leaving the road, and a Pennsylvania driver’s car struck a tanker, injuring the driver’s mother.

Edith White was installed worthy matron and Peter Chase worthy patron of Lordsburg chapter No. 21, Order of the East Star, at Masonic Hall. A potluck supper preceded the installation. White dedicated her year to her mother Emma Culp with Scripture Leviticus 19 18 and symbols of the Bible and Cross. She received a corsage from her mother and others. Installing Matron Cora Kirby led the ceremony.
Motor vehicle license plates are back on sale at Cochran's Electric Co office. Mrs. Eleanor Cochran announces availability for local vehicle owners and drivers.
Hidalgo County figures lead Mothers March with district captains named for January 27 event. City plans a plaza over the playground area between Avenues B and C and Gold and West Streets with cottonwood circles and gravel walks. Police reform includes civilian dispatchers, new shifts, resignations, and ongoing officer training.
Growers and shippers show interest in Lordsburg to develop a lettuce and vegetable center. A delegation from Polar Vac Company and J. T. Gabriel Processing visited December 28 to inspect site and discuss potential location. Mr. Lindsey, a local grower, notes strong prospects for development.
March of Dimes chain coffees started January 2 hosted by Mothers March Chairman Phyllis Murray. Attendees included Irene Williams Pansy Stubbs Bonnie Craig Doris Myers Halle Reay and Vic Reay Hidalgo County March of Dimes director who screened the film The Challenge and outlined new National Foundation plans. film accessible to groups via Vic Reay contact numbers 11 and 234.

Two seats on the Lordsburg Municipal School Board are up for six year terms with voting at City Hall on February 3. Incumbent Harber Heather seeks re election among candidates Alan A. Koff and Warren White. Peter M. Chase has not decided on running. Deadline to file declarations is 6 p.m. January 24 with the Board president.
