Faces in Court House Organize Tuesday in Hidalgo County

Voters elected a new Hidalgo County Board of Commissioners with Hoggett Pace and Townsend taking charge. The county kept its Clerk's and Treasurer offices, with Eleanor Cochran and W. D. Hall reappointed respectively and new deputies named. The District Health Board and gas installation in the courthouse were approved. Bailey Smith kept custodian and jailer duties.

Dairy Cows in Hidalgo County Undergo Bangs Testing

On November 21 Dr W W Wiseman and C Caldwell tested 220 head from Lordsburg Lent's and Bailey dairies for Bangs disease. Five reactors and one suspect were found. Results show need for closer milk control though no Lordsburg ordinances exist. Brucella abortus causes Bangs disease in cattle and undulant fever in humans. Raw milk poses the greatest risk.

Three Sixes Club Dance At Fred Gilman Home

The Three Sixes Club held a Wednesday afternoon dance at the Fred Gilman residence with Mrs. Gilman as hostess. Guest Mrs. Frank Weldon Jr. awarded prizes to Mrs. W. W. Scott, Mrs. Glen Evans, Mrs. E. C. Herschler, and Mrs. C. F. Sanders. The next meeting is slated for January 18 at the W. I. Prine home with Mrs. R. J. Ashlin as hostess.

Governor Miles Opens Virden Irrigation Gates In NM

Governor Miles ordered the gates opened after a meeting with C A Firth of Arizona and John Gang's. Officials including Thomas M. McClure and John Bradford Jr. supervised the gauge stations as water control shifted to New Mexico administration in the lower Gila valley. Holiday thefts and car burglaries reported in county

Sheriff John P Cavin cites eight spare tires and wheels stolen in Lordsburg Animas and Banner Mine. Cars broken into, Christmas packages stolen some still unopened. Two juveniles 21 and 20 held. another youth detained in Bisbee. Tire and wheel recoveries partial. some thrown into water shaft. Local American Legion Reports Seventy Paid Members

Commander FE Wright reports the current paid up membership at seventy. A fine meeting was held Wednesday evening at the K P hall. Discussion covered entertaining the State American Legion on August 9 4 and 6 in Lordsburg the smallest city to host the Legion in New Mexico. The Auxiliary served refreshments.

Lions Club Plans Large Historical Edition for Advertising

The Lordsburg Lions Club held a Tuesday noon meeting. President Claude Sanders outlined progress by committees including a plan to issue a large edition of the Lordsburg Liberal for advertising. The January New Mexico State Magazine featuring the Solar Radiation Observatory near Lordsburg was shown. Several committees were appointed to ensure full attendance at meetings and to place markers guiding tourists to historic sites.
