City Corner outlines pothole repairs and street grants

The city plans cold mix pothole fixes this winter with hot mix later. It will use remaining $365000 One-Cent Gasoline Tax Bond funds to match GDBG and State Co-op grants, aiming for a large three year street improvement program including crack sealing overlays flood control and safety measures. Martha Tafoya Receives New Home At Christmas

Martha Tafoya of Windmill received a debt free new home on December 22 as a result of a six month fund raising effort by the Playas Valley Assembly of God Church family and friends. The two bedroom 1972 Sheffield was reconditioned by A-1 Mobile Home Las Cruces. Martha praised the community and thanked Pat Hogans of A-1 Mobile Homes for help.

City Election Filing Date Near January 9 1990

Filing hours are set for January 9 1990 to allow candidates to file for mayor four council terms and municipal judge. Required documents include a declaration of candidacy affidavit of voter registration triplicate copy stamped by the Hidalgo County Clerk and a valid street address. Registration books close January 9 1990 for the School Capital Improvements Tax Election.

County Clerk Missy Morelos informed appointed deputies that under 1-4-40H NMSA Com Supp their terms expired December 31, 1989. She has mailed some new appointment affidavits and warns those intending to run for office cannot serve as a registration officer.

EMT Classes Start Saturday Hidalgo County Ambulance Building

EMT classes begin January 6 at 9:00 AM at the Hidalgo County Ambulance Building. Sessions run all day Saturdays and four weeknight evenings with a $25 registration fee due at the first meeting. An organizational meeting for Animas EMT classes is January 4 at 6 PM at the Animas Fire Station. Classes start January 6.
