Velma A. Williams was chosen by her co workers as EMT of the Year at the after Christmas banquet at the China Doll. She was cited for eight years of service and dedication and her unselfish work at EMT fundraisers events and planning for the year ahead. The award will become an annual event presented at the Christmas banquet.
Sixth District Judge Manuel Saucedo denied a citizen petition to convene a grand jury to pursue potential charges against Thomas Flores. The petition alleged perjury from a recent preliminary hearing, underage alcohol provision violations, and other crimes, but the court ruled the state police probe should proceed and no grand jury should be convened at this time.

Bayne 83 longtime Lordsburg resident died Saturday December 22 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming Visitation was held Wednesday afternoon from 1 00 until 2 00 at Bacas Heather Funeral Chapel A graveside service followed at 2 00 at Mt View Cemetery with the Lordsburg Masonic Lodge 30 AF AM Presiding Bearers were C A Beasley Jiggs Reed Harold Jorgenson Phil Pressler Vance Lee and Forrest Hoff Honorary bearers were Jerry La Vigne Ed Looker Tom Hutton Alton Ford Roy Vaughan Jack Vaughan and Charlie Williams Arnold was born August 22 1907 at Hail Center Texas He had been a resident of Lordsburg since 1962 moving here from Animas He worked over 36 years with the U S Fish and Wildlife Service as a Government Trapper He was a member of the Lordsburg Masonic Lodge 30 AF AM the Order of Eastern Star the York Rite Bodies of Deming and was also the Past Master of the Masonic Lodge and Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star Arnold is survived by his wife Artie of the home one daughter Cookie Looker of Lordsburg two brothers Lee Bayne of Paducah Texas and Guy Bayne of Dallas Texas one sister Lena Gregory of Paducah Texas 0 tre granddaughter Lori Looker and one great granddaughter Amanda Hutton both of Arenas Valley The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Eye Bank Entrusted to the care of Baca s Heather Funeral Chapels
Dale J. Young 72, of Lordsburg, died Sunday December 23 at Memorial Medical Center Las Cruces. Visitation was December 26 6 30 p m at Bacas Heather Funeral Chapel. Funeral service December 27 at 3 p m at Bacas Heather Chapel with Rev Gray Rev Angilera and Mr Stone officiating. Interment Mt View Cemetery. Born September 22 1918 in Buffalo Wyoming he moved to Lordsburg six years ago from Silver City and owned Oasis Inn. Survived by wife Juanita two sons John D Young Randy W Young and three grandchildren.
