Mrs. Frank H. Bridgers announced Cissy King of Albuquerque TV dancing star on the Lawrence Welk Show as honorary State Chairman for the 1970 Easter Seal Campaign. Mrs. Rodney Newton is county chair and Mr. Fred J. Ewing is county treasurer. The Society aids handicapped with equipment loans care treatment orthopedic appliances transportation postural clinics and education. In NM last year 433 children and 508 adults were helped. over 1 100 services provided. 90 of 1970 contributions stay in New Mexico.

Medals For HM2 Dugan Honoring Vietnam Service
Mr and Mrs Perry Dugan will receive medals earned by their son HM2 Ben G Dugan killed July 4 1969 in Vietnam. Navy Captain G D Howard will present the awards including the Navy Commendation Medal with combat V for heroism near Da Nang on Feb 27 1969. Dugan drove an ambulance under fire to aid three wounded, evacuated them and searched debris for more casualties. He was born in Tucson Dec 17 1945, attended Lordsburg schools, enlisted Jan 31 1963, and served at Da Nang at his death.

Panthers Close Season With Split In District Action
The Animas Panthers split their final week, losing 59-57 in overtime at Hatch to Hatcd Bears and beating Elfrida 79-46. Dennis Massey led Animas with 17 points against Hatch, followed by Icky Massey 16 and Pete Peterson 14. Parnell led Hatch with 19. Animas won the B game 61-30 as Dominguez scored 21. The Panthers head to district tournament at 17 5, facing T or C at 3:45 p.m. Friday in Tularosa. The B team improved to 13-2, with Dennis Massey averaging 24 points in 21 games and Ricky Massey at 16.

Ten leading New Mexico sorghum growers including Adair Merrell and Sidney O Wright of Animas received Trainload and Carload Sorghum Grower awards from Northrup King & Co under a national program by the Minneapolis seed firm. NM producers yielded 9,708,655 pounds from NK hybrids, with Merrell topping the state at 2,149,000 pounds from 350 acres. Wright set a high per acre yield from 96 acres, with seedings in May and harvest in October to November, aided by fertilizer and regular irrigation.
