Evans, founder of Cowboy Camp, spoke on Our Duty to Our Children and received a standing ovation. The next quarterly meeting will be held in Deming.
Mrs. Ben Cochran announced this week that she would be open on Saturday February 28 for those who have not secured their 1959 license plates to do so. The deadline on 1959 license plates is March 2 without a penalty.
Leo Cohen announces negotiations to buy the Lordsburg Variety Store from the Chases. The store will close for remodeling and reopen with new merchandise, offering updated lines to serve the public. Cohen, a 35 year Lordsburg merchant, aims to resume serving old customers in a new location soon.
The Lordsburg Band Parents Organization hosts its annual auction this Saturday in the Central School gym starting at 7 30 pm and running until all items are sold. Auctioneer Mr Jennings Jarvis returns, donating his services again. Proceeds fund the public school band program.
Sam Gass reports the Heart Fund drive overall is successful with donations still incoming. On Heart Sunday, Beta Sigma Phi, Girl Scouts and Brownies collected 105.24 dollars, bringing the total to 234.90 including the merchants drive of 129.56. Tag Day is set for Saturday, February 28 in Lordsburg, with Sunshine Girls selling tags from 9:00 a.m.
Governor John Burroughs proclaims February 26 to March 7 as 4-H Club Week in New Mexico. The notice highlights 4-H ideals of clearer thinking loyalty service and better living and notes the program trains youths for fuller life and citizenship.
Mrs. Percy Brown announced the county assessor office will open Saturday morning February 28 to assist those unable to visit during regular hours.
Local Chamber of Commerce advances a lettuce project led by John E. Evans of Phoenix Arizona. Evans will finance about 300 acres at 64 dollars per acre for a 40 percent crop stake, with production routed through a vacuum tube facility. An area near the railroad roundhouse is chosen for site development with lease terms to the chamber. The project requires site work and concrete slabs by April 5 1959 and involves cooperation with railroad and public service officials.
