Unusual Court Appearance Over Selective Service Refusal
In U S Commissioner Holt's court, John Evans Blaze vich, 25, picked up by Lordsburg Border Patrol, refused on October 16 1940 in Hot Springs Arizona to register under the Selective Service Act. The court bound him over to the U S Grand Jury in 2000 pounds, with FBI agents and Under-Sheriff Roy D Kerr as witnesses.

Col. and Mrs. George R. Wells visited Lordsburg this week. Wells noted December 7, 1936 marking his departure from the Hawaiian Islands, the fifth anniversary of Pearl Harbor. He served 24 years in the U S Army before retirement. Mrs. Wells, formerly Miss Faye McKeyes, is the daughter of the late Judge B Y McKeyes, Luna county’s first county clerk and a long serving U S Commissioner Judge.

Edward McSherry, drift manager of the Pacific Greyhound Lines, told the Chamber of Commerce Friday he is now using the buses himself as his private car is permanently parked during the emergency. He added other top agents will ride the buses as a small step to conserve rubber and gasoline.
