Lordsburg Bills Move in Senate on Water and Lighting
State Senator John Smith has introduced two Lordsburg related bills Senate Bill 300 would authorize 515,988 in severance tax bonds to build a water storage system and buy water rights for the city with an emergency clause. Senate Bill 225 would authorize 100,000 in severance tax bonds to repair street lighting on Interstate 10 within the city. Councillors Clark Smith and Pansy McDonald have worked on the projects with Smith and officials in Santa Fe. The city seeks grants to rebuild the lighting system to 1993 standards and improve water wells. Retail wheeling opponents warn of higher costs and job losses.
