Samuel H. Gass Dies After Brief Illness in Lordsburg
Samuel Harrison Gass a longtime Lordsburg resident died February 18 in a Deming hospital after weeks of illness. Born June 25 1894 in Philadelphia he moved to Lordsburg in 1913 and married Jennie Marsalis in 1917. He worked for Southern Pacific then ran his own business and served as city utilities superintendent for 20 years and county probate judge for two terms. He was active in the First Baptist Church and Lordsburg Masonic Lodge. He survived by his wife three daughters a sister six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery.

Local Contractor Apparent Low Bidder on I-10 Project
H Bishop Lumber Co of this city was the apparent low bidder for the State Highway Department contract to demolish and remove improvements along the I 10 right of way through Lordsburg. Bishop bid 16985 while B W Nelson of Tucumcari bid 23400 and Trotz Construction of Albuquerque bid 24402. The engineer's estimate was 36000.

New Mexico State University awarded 435 degrees to students who finished degree requirements in the fall. The graduates will be recognized at commencement on May 13, 1972.
