Lordsburg Woman Killed In Interstate 10 Crash

Valentina Tarazon Montez of Lordsburg died Friday night when a car carrying her was struck on I 10 by a westbound truck about 11 miles east of Lordsburg. Driver Javier Villasenor Ornelas, 29, was treated for head and face lacerations and a back injury. truck driver Henry Turner, 28, of Raleigh, Miss., was hospitalized with a concussion and leg injuries after being pinned under the tractor. The crash occurred in the right lane as both vehicles traveled west. the car overturned, ejecting occupants, while the truck trailer turned onto its left side and left the road.

Eighth Grade Dogies Win Snell Tournament

The Dogies 8th grade basketball team won the Snell Tournament at Cobre gym defeating Cliff Cowboys and Snell Eagles to stay undefeated at eleven wins. Louie Bassa led with 22 points in the first game and 12 in the final, with Rudy Escobar and Pete Hernandez adding double figures. Coach De Foor praised the team after a strong championship performance.

Bill M. Kimbley received the Citizens of the Year award at the Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce banquet in the Cafetorium.
