Local 4-H Clubs Meet At Lordsburg School

Four 4-H Clubs gathered at the Lordsburg school for an afternoon program led by Miss Eliza Mejia. Girls presented songs, demonstrations on food budgets, poultry, home improvement, and clothing, with officers elected and plans for the year outlined.

Welfare officials tour New Mexico counties checking child welfare

Mrs. Sullivan regional director over ten states of the Public Welfare Department from Washington D C led a group including Anna Bosch Laura Waggner and K Collet Peterson through seven counties yesterday en route to Silver City Deming and Las Cruces to inspect child welfare. They dined with Mrs Ena Walter and Mrs Elizabeth Winters at the Hidalgo Coffee Shop.

McNutts Visit El Paso On Business Trip

Mr and Mrs J T McNutt were business visitors in El Paso on Monday detailing their travel and professional engagements in the city.

Fat Stock Show baby beef on view at El Paso area

Calves from the region were shown at El Paso with several high placements. Ray Elms plans to serve a 820 pound champion calf at Hidalgo Coffee Shop while Mancel Mortensen sold an 815 pound calf to the El Paso Hotel Association and Livestock buyers purchased multiple other calves from Virden and Artesia. County Agent Black praised the outcomes and George Cureton earned credit for organizing transport and feeding arrangements for the calves.

Death Claims J. D. Martin in Rodeo Home

J D Martin died after long illness at his Rodeo home on February 14 with funeral held February 15 in Rodeo cemetery led by Rev Allen of Douglas Christian Church. Pallbearers included Benford Martin Driscol Martin John Bull Bert Richards Clarence Russell and W Keeling. He was born November 7 1863 in San Antonio married Nora Baker December 1896 and had sons Benford Talbert deceased and Driscoll. He served as Armstrong county sheriff twice and moved to Rodeo area in 1919. Survived by wife two sons three granddaughters a brother T P Martin and a sister Mrs Renie Traner. Guests Collins Coates and Jim Robinson noted.

Joint party hosted by Buvens and Eyan for freshmen and eighth graders

Mrs RK EE Buvens and Mrs Ronald Eyan co hosted a Saturday evening party in the Woman's club building. About thirty seven young people from the Freshman and eighth grade classes enjoyed games dancing and refreshments of sandwiches cookies and cocoa.

District Court session in Lordsburg presided by Judge Hay

The regular semi monthly term of the District Court in Lordsburg was held Wednesday under Judge George W. Hay. Cases included Bradbery and Jones against C. L. Brown as mayor with the court ordering salary payments for December and January. Several other routine matters were disposed of during the sitting.

Mrs Nat Gammon entertained at a finely appointed lunch eon bridge party Friday afternoon, complimenting Mrs J P Church of Deming, her mother Mrs A G Hebb, sister Miss Grace Hebb of Bridgeton Maine, Mrs John 8 Clark of El Paso and Mrs Vic tor Culberson of Silver City. Other guests included Mrs Tom Clayton, Mrs Harry Day, Mrs Sherwood Culberson, Mrs Stella Fon and the Kontens. Mrs Harry Day won first prize and Mrs A G Hebb received a gift prize.

Christian Endeavor Social Discusses Youth Issues

Thirty two members and visitors attended last Sunday's Christian Endeavor meeting. The session featured a boys versus girls exchange on social problems, a forthcoming talk by a popular local youth, and a plan to study lying and its consequences next Sunday. The luncheon and social at the church Tuesday was praised, and the C E voted to order chorus books.

Mount Graham Stake Split Into Two Wards

The St Joseph Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving Arizona New Mexico and Texas with over seven thousand members is divided into two stakes with the line between Thatcher and Safford. Eastern division will have two wards in Lordsburg or Las Cruces. The split aimed to better manage the growing membership.

Social Security Act Applied To Lordsburg

David S. Pruitt of the Social Security Board said few in Lordsburg have filed for lump sum benefits under the act. He noted 9 percent of covered wages since 1946 are payable to those age 65 or to estates of workers who died before 65. Employers should check records for eligible individuals. Pruitt will be at the chamber of commerce and may visit Vinita as needed.

Barsby Reynolds Ties The Knot On Washington's Birthday

Mian Dolores Barsby and Reynolds, a Douglas businessman, were married on Washington's Birthday in Lordsburg. Bishop J. F. Payne officiated with Mrs. Payne and a sister-in-law as witnesses. The bride wore green crepe with rhinestones and a veil. The couple will split time between Lordsburg and Douglas before settling in Arizona City. The ceremony drew many friends' congratulations.

Missionary Society Plans Banquet for Rainbow Girls

The Metho dist Missionary Society met February 19 in the church undercroft to finalize plans for a banquet serving Rainbow Girls and guests. A March 17 event is set for Lordsburg Business and Professional Women Club members and friends with Luella S. Clark in charge of public relations. Charley Fuller led the devotional, with Percy Brown and R. A. Crider hosting and serving light refreshments to a list of named attendees.

Lordsburg Gas System Is Approved by City Council

A council committee led by Mayor C L Brown inspected the newly installed Lordsburg natural gas system built by P L Gratton with supervision by H J Forward and government inspector R K Gaines. The high school plant was faultless, and the system uses automatic shutoffs. The project includes 0.6 miles of mains, potential to exceed ten miles, 568 service lines and 47 meters currently providing revenue, with total gas pipe reach at 142 miles. The city estimates value around $100000 and notes substantial relief labor funding from the government.

Animas School Carnival a Brilliant Success

The Animas school carnival held last week was a decided success says county superintendent Agnes Edington. A PTA play organized by Mrs Ballard and others featured high school students and Philadelphia helpers. The carnival also netted funds for the school and students hope to visit Carlsbad Caverns on Governor's Day.

Mrs Laura Beck er Supreme Inspector of the Rainbow for Girls in New Mexico attended a banquet and entertainment at Lordsburg Assembly No 17 with seventy two members and guests.
