District 4 basketball tournament opens Thursday at Silver City with sixteen teams. Hurley and Deming are favored while Hatch and Hatch play to upset in the opening round as the event features a wide-open field and no clear favorite.
The L D S Lordsburg Ward begins a church unit project to produce paper hay for the local market. Romney Produce has purchased and installed equipment and will take the entire output for processing. Boy Scout troops will deliver portions of the product, as the plan proves workable.
Chs Motor Co owned by Mr and Mrs A Richards at 108 Railroad Avenue has acquired the Jeep dealership. Jeep models are now on display at Rich's Motor Co showrooms and the company will continue its current auto dealership operations.
Hidalgo school board members met Saturday morning and attended the Hidalgo County Teachers Association meeting that afternoon at Lordsburg High School.
Eighth grade students lead a city cleanup urging residents to have trash debris ready for collection early Friday morning March 3. Discards include weeds, rakings, and lawn waste. drive continues through March 10 with students noting efforts to beautify the city and sharing writings in the issue.
Ralph Craig a 175 pound junior fullback from Lordsburg New Mexico earned all conference honors after completing his third varsity season with the Mustangs of New Mexico Western College. He was chosen by teammates as the most valuable player in a season that capped his college career.
Damon Dunagan announces the county treasurer’s office in the courthouse will be open on Saturday February 25 and March 4 to help owners purchase 1950 car licenses. License deadline is Thursday March 2, and driving without a 1950 license is a violation of the law.
The Lordsburg Lions club plans a minstrel show in March with date and venue to be announced. Produced by Bayard Lions, proceeds aid eye exams and glasses for underprivileged children. President Dick Rice named a planning committee including H H Bryant Harold Scofield and Gerald Malott. New members K C Holloman and Roger Welles to be inducted. L E Gay reinstated.
Mrs Jack Morgan acted as hostess for the Beta Sigma Phi sorority gathering at her residence last Thursday evening, presenting a friendly social event for members.

Fuller Travel Agency offers a first class all expense Mexico City tour for two with hotel stays and meals. Mrs. Wesley Freeburg will give a short talk on Founders Day at the PTA meeting tonight in the high school auditorium at 7. The fifth grade presents The Proud Princess, produced by the pupils without outside help. The class members direct and handle casting, costumes, and other details. The public is invited.
