The last total solar eclipse of the 20th century visible from North America occurs Monday morning February 26, with a 175 mile wide path from the Pacific through Oregon Washington Idaho Montana North Dakota parts of Canada and ending in Greenland. Observers east of Lake Winnipeg will see 2 minutes 52 seconds of totality. At New Mexico State University the event runs 8 10 a m with maximum at 9 15 a m and more than 70 percent blocked. Safe viewing methods include shade No 13 glass and pinhole projection. The campus observatory will host public viewing 8 10 a m with safety-filtered telescopes and staff on hand.

Lordsburg High seniors Victor Ornelas and Sandi Howard were selected for the Washington Workshops Congressional Seminar in Washington D C. Ornelas attends February 25 and March 4 1979 while Howard goes March 4 11 1979. Both live with families in Golf Park and Shakespeare Street. The program, in partnership with Marymount College of Virginia, offers hands on exposure to American politics and Congress.
