Mavericks Fall Twice on Road in Weekend Set

The LHS Mavericks lost Friday at T or C Hot Springs 70 66 and Saturday at Silver City 55 46. Lordsburg led early, then Hot Springs and Silver City rallied to win. Speer 20 rebounds helped the Tigers. Ortega led Lordsburg with double figures. The season ends 13 wins 5 losses as district tournament looms.

No Candidates Filed For Virden Election

Virden will hold a city election on Tuesday March 5 at the Virden School house to elect a mayor three council members and a city clerk. Mayor Le Ross Jones said no one filed as candidates and he is not eligible for re election. Write in votes will fill the positions.

Russell Smith Named to Hidalgo General Hospital Board

Russell Smith, local automobile dealer, has accepted appointment to the Hidalgo General Hospital board of trustees to fill the vacancy from Gilbert Bucvens resignation. Gabriel, the hospital administrator, said the board will meet on the third Tuesday of each month going forward.

Overturned Truck Blocks Traffic on I 10 Westbound

A westbound I 10 wreck nine miles east of town halted traffic late Saturday night when a truck and trailer overturned after hitting a house trailer. Driver Ray Hughes of Palestine Texas was hospitalized with non serious injuries. co driver Smalley of Houston unharmed. The house trailer was destroyed and cattle trailer alongside blocked the road as authorities diverted traffic.

Roy On Bicycle Accident Injures Boy

David Holguin seven suffered minor injuries when struck by a car while riding a bicycle at Second Street and Pyramid Street. He was treated at Hidalgo General Hospital, kept overnight, and released next morning. The driver, Paul Thomson, said the boy rode from Pyramid onto Second without stopping at the sign. skid marks indicate an attempt to brake.

Bar Associations Endorse Justice Oman for Reelection

The Luna and Hidalgo County Bar Associations endorse Justice LaFel E. Oman of the New Mexico Court of Appeals as eminently qualified for reelection. Oman, appointed by Governor Jack Campbell when the court started in 1966, is praised by local lawyers from Las Cruces to Hidalgo County for his long service and proven qualifications.
